After multi process update, I only have 1/2 to 1/16 of my normal screen available. The rest is filled in with white nothingness. It's much like the dev console is open but there is no data. I have tried running a script to reset the window "javascript: (function(){ document.getElementById('iframe_canvas').style.height='1500px';})()" but I'm still stuck. I've updated flash and java. Restart, uninstall, and other such common attempts. I have not removed the directory as I'd like to keep settings and bookmarks but I guess that would be next on the list.

What is your computer system and Firefox?

Have you rebooted the computer?

See if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

Well the same thing happened to my work and laptop computer running Firefox Aurora/Dev. So all 64-bit systems but one 7 Home, one 7 Pro, and one 7 Ult. The version that caused me issues was, I think, 40.2 (a). Don't quote me as did not write down version before uninstalling. All are updated with video drivers and Windows update. Also, rebooted numerous times on each.

I finally caved and just uninstalled Dev edition and picked up plain old vanilla. It works as it should and do not have the error as before which leads me to believe this is a Dev edition issue, specifically pertaining to the Multi Process update notification. Whether you dismiss, ignore, or accept the upgrade to Multi-Process, the next tab you open has only 1/16th of the normal viewable screen and the rest, starting at the bottom of the internet window, is just white.

So the issue I am having, to narrow it down further, is the implementation of "e10s" or electrolysis. I also reinstalled just to get the exact version and it's 40.0a2.

This is a fourth system I am writing from. Surely it can't be just my bad luck. Anyone else using (or probably not any more!) Firefox Developer/Aurora?

So I read on a wiki where I can start firefox in safe mode and then disable the e10s feature. It did not work. Even with the e10s disabled, it still only shows me 1/16th of my browser.

I found these in the about:config page. But I don't know how to use them.

extensions.classicthemerestorer.e10stab_notd = false

print.enable_e10s_testing = true

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can find the full version of the current current Firefox release (38.0.5) in all languages and all operating systems here:

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
