Please help as Firefox is my preferred browser followed by Opera and Chrome in that order

Frequent Firefox crashes are disruptive of my workflow which is very web-dependent

STEPWISE:

1. I have frequent crashes

2. The Crash Reporter comes up

3. Submit report is enabled

4. I select QUIT or RESTART - a rotating symbol shows the reporter is trying to do something BUT NOTHING HAPPENS

5. I close the Reporter window

6. I try to run Firefox again: That brings up the reporter panel again.

7. THE ONLY WAY I CAN OPEN FIREFOX AGAIN IS TO REBOOT MY COMPUTER.

8. I switch to OPERA browser to access Mozilla support

9. I follow instructioins: If you can't open Firefox because it crashes at startup even in Safe Mode: Go to ~/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted.

10. That brings up a long list of "Reports submitted" all with the following format and all sized 50B containing ZERO INFORMATION bp-06def14b-da8b-450e-8157-7ae252141029.txt plain text document 50 B 29/10/2014 21:33:34

11. Before posting this question I tried to "Automatically add" troubleshooting information - which only brought up the dysfunctioning trouble shooter again!

12. The link to "try these manual steps" brought up a fresh "Ask a Question" window - presumably because it attempted to open in Firefox instead of OPERA which I'm using to log this this report since I'll have to reboot before being able to use Firefox again.

SYSTEM INFO:

OS: Ubuntu 14.04 - fully updated Mozilla Firefox 33.0 (Info via Terminal since Firefox is stalled) Plugins: Zotero, AdBlock Plus, Print edit, Download Helper (from memory since FF is stalled)

I use Thunderbird 31.2.0 for email - Firefox DOES NOT bring Thunderbird down with it when both are running BUT Thunderbird also crashes unexpectedly but not nearly as often as Firefox

Is it possible to start Firefox in Safe Mode, I do understand that the frequent crashes are disrupting and after a crash that Firefox will not open, you need to restart the computer.

In about:config are there any changed about:config entries related to the crash report: browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash

However in the meantime I will see what I can find.

Another test that would eliminate some of the possibilities is disabling your addons and plugins to see if this is what is contributing to the frequent crashes.
