Cox.com has decided to no longer have their own email server and switched their accounts to yahoo. I can read my email directly on Yahoo, but can't get their imap to work. I changed the imap and smtp settings to yahoo. Also, the email login has changed and I changed that in Thunderbird. With Cox, the login was just "username" and now it is "username@cox.net". When I made these changes in the account settings, my email account has disappeared from the inbox, but it is still in account settings. I am using a unified inbox with several accounts.

Cox will not help me with this, and I have been on hold with yahoo for an hour with no response. I have been messing with this for two days so I hope you can help me.

Hello, I use Thunderbird with the system default theme (dark on win 11). It is great, and when reading Emails, the background is white. So no mails get messed up. But when replying to mails, the background of the textarea is black and some mails do have black text. So it is impossible to write a mail and keep calm.

Is it in the config or somewhere else possible, to change the color of the textarea to always white / bright?

I do not need any information on how to change the theme for everything to bright as this is not an option.

Hello, Linux environment is running on my chromebook, thunderbird has been installed. 2 issues: - When I try to install an extension, I always get a message "This extension will have permission to have unlimited access to thunderbird and the computer". and I'm stuck. The add button does not trigger any action. This does the same thing if I want to install a dictionary from the settings. - I have no access shared folders like my Drive on my Chromebook, despite having Linux sharing enabled. How can I turn off the threading of my emails? Its driving me crazy as when an email comes in after a short time it disappears into the threads and then I have to open each thread to find out who sent the email. At one stage there were 6 emails noted near the inbox but no new unthreaded message, all went to respective threads. Very time wasting.

Hello There all So I recently installed Win11 and Tbird 115.7.0

My issue is this: When I double click a PDF in a received email it opens up in my default PDF reader (Foxit) so it's all good. When I'm composing an email and add a PDF I like to check to see that I'm sending the correct PDF attachment so I double click and it won't open, I get this message (Attached Image) I went to Tools/Settings/General/Files&Attachments and PDF (Foxit) is set as the default so all good

So again Inbox messages opens PDF's no problem Composing messages won't open PDF's

I used to do this all the time on Win10 and it worked perfectly See my settings in image 2 Thanks In Advance :-)

I just recently downloaded Thunderbird after using Mac Mail for years. Mail suddenly refused to display messages and no one on the Apple forum could figure out why. So I was advised to download Thunderbird. So far, I'm not a fan. Here are my issues: 1. Unread messages in the Inbox are in bold. But the bold is so close to the normal font that I can't tell them apart. Is there another, better way to mark unread messages? A tick/check mark? A coloured background? 2. Messages are automatically organised into conversations. But when the latest message comes in, the inbox message doesn't go bold. So there is no way of knowing where to find it. I have to go through all messages that have a conversation (more than one message in the inbox) and find one where the latest message is in bold at the bottom. It's a royal pain. I see the number next to the account on the left, but nothing is in bold on the right. Grrr. 3. The conversations are the wrong way up. I want the most recent message at the top, not the bottom. I would actually prefer not to have them in conversations at all, just the most recent message, but I realise that is probably asking too much. 4. There is no number next to the Thunderbird icon on my desktop when I get a message. I used to appreciate this in Mail. It told me if it was worth going to my inbox. With Thunderbird I have to open the program to find out. Ok, that's enough for now. I'd better not get started on the shortcomings of the search function, or how to bring the unread messages to the top of the inbox list... There are just too many issues to address is one posting. Thanks for any help you can give.

Classic view option missing in TB 115.6

I have TB 115.6.0 running on 3 computers (1 desktop and 2 laptops). On 2 computers there is a tiny icon on the right hand side in the menu bar that allows me to switch between the "new and improved" (but utterly horrible), side by side message list and the classic view.

On the laptop I am currently using to write this request, TB 115.6.0 does not have that wonderful little icon and I am condemned to use the side by side display or find another mail client.

Can someone help me find or restore that little icon that gives me a choice or alternatively lets me change the message list display back to its old useful configuration?


As an aside, why do software developers insist on making "improvements" that no one needs or wants?

I have seen numerous posts on this forum involving the "Leave Messages on Server" option in the server portion of the Account settings. Many of these posts include responders stating that this option does not apply to POP servers.

If this is correct, why does Thunderbird even include this setting for an account that is explicitly designated as a POP server/account? This is an invitation to confusion and misunderstanding; I have been a victim of this. It seems to me to be a no-brainer to change the code to remove this option from these POP accounts.

  • Apply this default setting to all. I don't want to sort every account, every folder manually. That's too tedious.

Thunderbird has oldest on top. This includes emails within a thread/conversation. Changing the sort to newest on top does not change the emails within the thread/conversation. The sort does not apply to all emails. I find this very annoying.

When running Thunderbird in Dark Mode, the message pane (that shows the message when you select it from your inbox) still has a white background. This makes perfect sense, because a dark background can easily mess up HTML mails.

Which I know because the compose / reply window does have a dark background, making it all but impossible to read what you're replying to if it was a HTML mail.

I would like to set the view and reply window to use the same background. Can this be achieved or is this a bug?

I have researched online and found lots of various answers to the same question (some years ago). Unfortunately, the processes suggested in the answers do not relate to what I am seeing on my computer. Can someone point me in the right direction, please? Thanks.

Am trying to add Dropbox filelink to Thunderbird. I get the code from Dropbox and copy it but when I try to paste it to Thunderbird where it says code, nothing happens. I right click but no box appears offering a paste option. Have also tried Web DAV but when I click to save the addresses offered again nothing happens. Any ideas ? I've been using Thunderbird for years and had very few problems. I view and keep all my incoming and sent emails in date order, and move them to the relevant folders when they are dealt with. This morning my incoming emails also have other incoming emails, and my original sent email attached to them. I think this is called threading? but I have never set this up or asked for it, and don't even know how to do it. I'm finding this 'threading' is really annoying - I want all my emails separate and not joined or linked together. How do I disable this setting and stop all my emails joining together like this? I've looked at the help pages and the answers are too technical. I've tried the ones I can understand but they don't work. Can someone please send me a step by step solution to this? thank you Ray

Hi, I am new to Thunderbird and not very computer savvy.

I have successfully set up my mail account and am trying to apply filters to incoming mail. The filter is very simple: If the message contains FROM "@mail.zillow.com" send the message to the ZILLOW folder (under that email address).

I have checked the filter log and it says "could not get filter db". I have tried to run the filter manually - no go.

I have tried to read about others who have a similar issue and it talks about debugging. I'm sorry. I do not know how to do this.
