thunderbird client website has completely changed. HELP. I tried to follow instructions to remove 'threading, but the entire layout changed. To start with the 'inbox ' view is no longer divided into columns which allowed the user to sort by sender, title, date or prioitysuch like. Further to this there are tabs all across the top which I don't want. They interefer with what I do want, i.e. tabs I have made for address book, or emails in preparation for sending. I've tried unstalling and reinstalling, but it is still this useless format. What can I do?.

I had finally found how to change to color of unread emails from blue to a red color (called tomato) that was easily detected when I scan my email folders.

I finally found how to edit the "chrome" file and the updates *generally* left this adjustment alone.

With the newest ( for me) version 115.6.0 I'm back to the annoying Thunderbird Blue color. Due to the massive changes in the UI I don't know if I have the expertise to regain that red color.

Can someone who understands the current Thunderbird 115.6.0 provide me with instructions for this change? TIA

I am attempting to transition to Thunderbird. I have become quickly familiar with the HTML/CSS underlying the UI, and with the older userChrome.css structure for personal customization.

However, I can not figure out how to change the default background color of the message composition window -- which exists in a separate window from the main message viewer window -- from #2a2a2e to basic white.

Cracking open a copy of omni.ja in the app package, the only ID that I can find that seem to possibly be relevant is #messageArea, found in the following .css files:

chrome/classic/skin/classic/messenger/messageQuotes.css chrome/classic/skin/classic/messenger/shared/editorContent.css chrome/classic/skin/classic/messenger/shared/messengercompose.css

I have tried to override the default #2a2a2e color of the message composition area in my userChrome.css file, but to no success. (By contrast, it was easy to change the background color of the message viewing area with #messagePane)

I have tried the obvious step of changing the background color to white in the color settings option. Even after multiple app restarts, this setting does not affect the dark grey default background of the composition window.

Is there a name to this window div and a class or ID that i could access and customize through my userChrome.css file?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I accidentally changed my view to card view (at least I think it was me...) by clicking on a button on the quicksearch bar. Working quickly (to quick...) I don't know what happened, but the button was not there anymore and I cannot change back to table view anymore.

I really need table view! I manage hundreds of emails and need to be able to sort them quickly by clicking column headers.

Three things that I feel should be changed in Thunderbird

1. A toggle switch to highlight that we chave received email in a thread. I can spend hours looking for why the folder shows I got an email, yet none of the messages are highlighted.

2. When I want something to be opened in a new tab, I want to switch to the new tab. This again can be a toggle.

3. More of the configure editor settings should be brought out to regular settings with better descriptions. Coders are not the best choice for labeling something.

None of this is an emergency, but there will be a point in the level of frustration that can cause folks to jump ship. As an example when I got a 4k screen, trying to get everything in Thunderbird to fit properly took hours and I am still not happy with the out come. I am hearing that there are a lot of folks, not all, that are frustrated with Thundebird.

I do not have any Add-ons enabled. I enable the Menu Bar. However, after reopening Thunderbird it is gone, and I need to enable it again.

If I start in Troubleshoot Mode, the Menu Bar is there.

I am running an old version, v102.15.1, 64-bit (which I need for an add-ons that is not compatible with later TB versions) and WIN7 (64-bit)

Dear Support Team, I am trying Thunderbird email client for the 1st time and downloaded and installed v 115.8.0 (64-bit). I did setup with comcast.net xfinity email as IMAP using standard setup options and able to see most current emails. At the top I see Inbox ..1,934 message counter . Oldest messages are shown at the top of view and attempt to scroll up would not add older messages to this view, which might explain the search problem issue. When I do search (Ctrl-Shift-F) with rule that requires older messages , like for instance date range or specific range in 2023 like "after 01/01/2023 + before 06/01/2023 it return no matches. It works fine when messages are within the displayed list of messages (01/12/2024 to 02/22/2024). I set Run search on Server box to on but it still does not work for searching messages older than list being displayed. So somehow adding older messages from the server is being blocked. Please help

I just got the new "supernova" update and now I can't find the stettings to place my tabs bar at the top of the screen. The old version had the tabs right at the top, just as a browser would typically have it as well (see new and old schreenshot for comparison). But I'm just unable to configure it that way.

Can anybody please tell me how to configure thunderbird to use all that wasted space at the top sensibly?

When viewing, composing or replying to an email the font size is either too small or too large. Despite the settings of 'Medium' or 'Small'. In some cases the reply is in font size 16 or even 18, in other cases it's like size 8 or 9. Also, the size is displayed as very small (like e.g. 8) and will show up as font size 16. I think this doesn't make sense. Is there something wrong with the rendering engine?!

It doesn't come over as professional when emailing to individuals and businesses.

What can be done about this? Is this a WYSIWYG-issue in the editor? Or maybe something deeper within Thunderbird? Or... can it easily be fixed? (and if so, how?)

I have version 115.6.0 (64-bit) installed on my Windows 11 23H2.

For historic reasons (25 years of use :/ ) I view messages in each mailbox by date, ascending, unthreaded. I'm currently using v.115.5.0 (64 bit) on Ubuntu 22.04.

2 PROBLEMS...

1. The setting of view / sort / threaded for INBOX ONLY seems to now be volatile (in that it switches itself on, and when turned back off goes back to "on" at the start of the next session... BUT also does this in real time as mail comes down: I watched mail coming in (maybe 50 messages, took a good minute or so to do this) and as it came in the presentation (right pane) changed from "unthreaded" to "threaded".

2. The global setting of view / sort / threaded switched itself on all by itself, bit annoying because at first I thought all sorts of messages had been deleted...

I can change to "unthreaded" on a mailbox by mailbox basis except that I have 14,000-odd mailboxes.

I have changed the global settings using: Edit / settings; scroll down, clock on "config editor" button Edit "mailnews.default" Set: mailnews.default_news_sort_order 1 (ascending) mailnews.default_news_sort_type 18 (sort on date) mailnews.default_sort_order 1 (ascending) mailnews.default_sort_type 18 (sort on date)

except that although mailnews.default_news_sort_type was set to 22 (threaded) and I have changed it to 18 on a stable basis (it stays at 18) I never use news and so the value for mailnews.default_sort_type was 18 all along.. and the global sort setting (found by looking at a random mailbox) is still set to "threaded" - as if "mailnews.default_sort_type" is not being read. Also no manual words on what these settings mean, as far as I can tell.

Any ideas?
