I was trying to get the answer to a simple question: How do you change the default sender in Thunderbird? The problem comes up when you click a "mailto" from a web page. The FROM address that was coming up was not one I wanted. Asking the question about the default sever brought up more than 150 discussions. Only after reading many them for more than half an hour, did I find the answer: In Account Settings, select Account Actions, then select Set as Default. Why isn't there a searchable user manual that would provide the answer to a simple question quickly? OK, the question may not be that simple because 'default sender' may be ambiguous. It might refer to the default SMTP server (the one used if you specify "Use default server" in your account settings for outgoing server). Or it could be the default identify, if your account has more than one identity (others, like me, may be pleased to learn you can have more than one identity in an account). In my case case, it meant the default account. But the number of meanings is finite. If a user queries for the default sender, the help facility should present the alternative meanings and ask the user which one is wanted. Wikipedia a disambiguation function. Can't Thunderbird have one as well?

One interesting said to disable IPV6 security option, but the way they described the fix was to access thry the EDIT menu then Preferences, but my system does not have Preferences under Edit.

With the moving of Cox emails to Yahoo would it be feasible for Thunderbird to put an instruction list(with screenshots) of how to get all our TB email accounts from Cox to TB? Do we have to delete all our TB email accounts and re-enter them into TB under the new Yahoo or can we just change the server settings on the existing Cox settings? If just changing server settings what are the settings for the new yahoo? All my accounts are IMAP so if instructions could be made, maybe one for IMAP and one for POP for those who use either. Thank you

I recently archived locally about 10 years worth of emails successfully (the emails were removed from the my ISP's servers and I opted for a yearly format). I can easily find these in Thunderbird but of course they are not on the mail server anymore.

Settings info: I have Message Archives set to "Archives on Local Folder" followed by my email address (I set it up with this name so that I can find the archives specifically for backup by my Sinology server).

However, my Sent folder (shows a paper airplane icon) is missing, although I also downloaded it and thought it would be saving locally.

When I verified my Archive options in TB, I noticed that while I had selected "Yearly archived folders" I did not select "Keep existing folder structure of archived messages". I assume that this is a mistake on my part?

My questions are: Q1. Where are my Sent emails - would they be mixed in with received messages in each yearly archive? Q2. How do I access these sent emails within the TB search window?

Any advice and suggestions would be most appreciated and thank you. C.

I am assisting my friend Lindsay in aged care to enable him to continue to use Thunderbird for email. Currently TB will receive mail but unable to send.

This is complicated in that Lindsay is paying iPrimus.com.au a monthly fee to enable him to use an old email address xx@bluep.com. I can log in to the iPrimus web portal to send and receive xx@bluep.com emails, https://webmail.iprimus.com.au/?_task=mail&_mbox=INBOX.

I downloaded Thunderbird version 115.6.0 (64-bit) on my pc this morning and the Auto Set Up configured mail.bluep.com as the incoming (POP) and outgoing (SMTO) servers. Mail is coming in but not sending.

I changed the outgoing server to smtp.iprimus.com.au, default port 587 however messages still cannot be sent and Thunderbird shows that smtp settings must be reconfigured.

I spoke this morning to iPrimus Tech Support who advised the default smtp port should be 25, not 587. However I have found that resetting the smtp port to 25 does not enable emails to send.

Note that I have previously set the smtp port to 587 which enabled sending on non ISP connections. This ability would be required as Lindsay is using whatever Wi-Fi service is available in the facility.

iPrimus Tech Support have suggested I should contact Thunderbird (Mozilla) about this problem.

Can you advise Thunderbird server settings for this situation.

Thanks for you assistance. Regards, Peter M

I'm probably wasting my time here because whenever I Google this problem I get instructions that do not work. And If I try and search Thunderbird Settings with the simple searchterm SMTP I get 'Sorry! There are no results in Options for "smtp".' This seems a peculiar error message for an application that purports to be an email client! And I've just updated to the latest version (115.7.0).

So, pretty please with sugar on top, how do I get to see the smtp server settings in Thunderbird? I would really hate to have to switch to Outlook.

Thank you

Hi all,

Two days ago, copies of messages I send stopped being automatically saved to my TBird SENT folder. This is the case whether I send the messages to myself or other addressees.

I use Windows 10, TBird 115.6.1, and Gmail (with POP3 for the affected account).

BTW, this is not happening with an IMAP account I also use with TBird. Copies of messages I sent continue to be automatically saved to that account's Sent folder (as usual).

After researching this problem for several hours today, I've found that it's not an uncommon issue. The general advice is to navigate to Tools > Account Settings > Copies & Folders, check the Place a copy in, select Other, then point to the Sent folder of the affected account. (Alternatively, a copy can be requested to be placed in the Sent folder under Local Folders, which is actually what I've had set for many years of using TBird).

I tried sending multiple test emails to no avail. Nothing solved the problem of no copies in SENT. Despite that, every time I sent a new email, my Sent folder message count showed the addition of one more message, but no message appeared. Right now my Sent folder says there are 14 messages there, but none actually appear. The folder is empty.

I then tried several other alternative suggestions from Mozilla and other websites. Nothing works. Copies of emails I send are being saved to my Sent folder on Gmail webmail. Just not in Thunderbird.

I also tried the REPAIR option for my Sent folder. No effect. Shut down the program, re-started it, etc.

I verified that I had set TBird as an exclusion in Windows Security.

As a last resort (since this is a very troublesome problem!) I created a new "Copies" folder under my Local Folders and set the "Place a copy in" that new folder instead of into Sent. That did actually work. Copies of emails I sent after that did show up in that new "Copies" folder.

I would appreciate any assistance you can give, as I suspect my TBird Sent folder has somehow become suddenly corrupted. If so, can you suggest how to proceed. Thanks very much!
