after installing firefox 5 update I find that firefox is uninstalled

I installed the firefox 5 update by using the "check for updates" tool in the "about" box. After applying the update, I clicked "restart firefox" button. Firefox closed but did not reopen. I tried to open it manually from start menu, says that the shortcut is invalid. The mozilla folder is missing from the folder "program files". Toshiba laptop, Windows XP Home SP3
