Well it's pretty simple. On your website, it's written how to change the language to other languages. We can clearly see English (US) but also arabic, spanish, french, portuguese from Brazil and Chinese.

I bought a ZTE Open on Ebay and there's only English (US). I'd like to be able to install a french language pack. How can I do that?

Thank you for your answer. I needed the update indeed, but it doesn't change anything to the language issue. Since I bought the ZTE Open on ebay US, I got an american edition. I tried installing the Europeean Update, but it doesn't want to install. So I simply installed the American Update, it is nice and thank you for your suggestion, but it doesn't solve the problem.

Hi Socialiste, Thank you for contacting support. I understand you are trying to update the US ebay phone with the UK update, however you updated with the US update instead.

If this is currently not available I will contact mluna about this, and post back. Thank you.

Hi,

In brief, here's what I did:

1) I have the US ebay Phone, so I tried to update it with the 1.1 firmware, american too. The European firmware won't be accepted by the software recovery (power + volume up button)

2) I was able to install the 1.1 firmware, but it created more problems: the md5 check was not working anymore, it said "Android System Recovery Utility" instead of "Firefox OS Recovery Utility" in the recovery mode, but this was not problematic. What was problematic was that there was always an update for the marketplace that would'nt install and there was always an error when I was trying to manually search for update.

3) I was able to find, online, a 1.0 firmware which was Signed (so the MD5 verification would work) and I was able to reset to factory default. Still no french, but at least no more bugs.

4) I received a message from ZTE US (the ebay seller, not the official company email) in broken english asking me to install the 1.2 version. They first sent me a .7z file which was impossible to use as a firmware updater in recovery mode. I tried to make a .zip file, but since I cannot sign it, it won't work. They haven't sent me another version for the firmware.

So, not I still use 1.0 firmware in english us, because I have to.

I got a reply from them, they say that this: [https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rnj3rja7gd.../kGH6LCBRmf] is all they can give me. It's the .7z file I was talking about. I don't know much about programming, and it seems that the file isn't even seen by the recovery tool. So, do you have any idea on how to install this 1.2 version update on my Zte Open?

Where did you get this software update, support for HK device or another? the ZTE site? Or did you get this from http://downloads.geeksphone.com/?

As far as I understand

  1. Save all of the personal data on the phone
  2. Make sure the phone is unlocked
  3. Please take note of the script used from this previous question, though access to a linux machine may be necessary.
  4. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../976414?page=3
  5. I have downloaded win 7 and extracted the files and repackaged them, and tried to updated from an external source: I also got the signature verification error. [I did a factory reset, and cleared the cache partition]

You can also flash the build if this SD package does not work. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/F.../Installing_on_a_mobile_device

Better yet, last time for the 1.1 update the previous question where this also happened mluna does sum it up for the current status : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../971252?page=2#answer-484863

Hi,

For the 1.0 signed firmware which was able to let me reset to factory default, the link is at the bottom of this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478426&page=4 , or, if you prefer, here: http://uploaded.net/file/sg97g0qj Since it's a ZTE Open and not a geeksphone, I haven't downloaded from the geeksphone website. Should I?

For the rest, I've read what you said about Mluna and it seems she's right, the update isn't necessary for the phone to be working, and it's a pain to deal with ZTE. However, this bring me back to square one: no french language. I also read that the french language is supported in 1.2 version. So, I'm wondering if installing the 1.2 version given to me by ZTE https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rnj3rja7gd.../kGH6LCBRmf is a good idea. If so, how can I do that?

Hi Socialiste,

I can confirm that 1.2 geeksphone does have French. This would possibly brick the phone. If you decide to please back up your data.

A success story has been posted here, however note this will void any warranties if you unlock the phone.

Please take note that the geeksphone *build* was not made for the ZTE phone.

Here's what I did, what's good and what's left to fix.

I was able to upgrade with the sd method to version 1.1 Europe. It seems that the signed firmware I was able to download to downgrade form 1.1 to 1.0 changed my version to European. So, I simply upgraded to the official european 1.1 update from ZTE.

Check for the appropriate driver After many hours trying to understand why I can't flash my phone with USB, it seems that Windows tends to automatically install various drivers for ZTE, 1 when it's normally started, 1 when you boot while holding the volume down button (fast boot) and 1 when you hold volume up and down. After installing the USB driver from ZTE, you must connect your phone using the 3 methods I just mentioned. Every single time, if Windows sees anything else than "ZTE Kernel Debug Interface", you must click to search for a driver, click to search manually on your computer, don't search at a specific location, click the second option to choose from a list of drivers on your computer, uncheck the option to see only compatible hardware, go to ZTE Corporation and select the "ZTE Kernel Debug Interface". It may tell you that the driver isn't signed, just ignore that.

Upgrading to 1.2 Now you should have ZTE Kernel Debug Interface in Device Manager every single time you connect your ZTE Open to the computer even if you hold volume up and down, or just volume down.

Now, get the 1.2 firmware (link in the post by guigs2) (I was able to install both american and european version during my test, so just take the right one for you). Extract everything on a folder and copy to that folder adb.exe and fastboot.exe from the Android SDK bundle you need to download. Again, details in the link in the post by guigs2. When they ask to flash your phone in this post by guigs2, you could simply make a batch file. To do so, create a .txt file, write this inside:

adb reboot bootloader fastboot flash boot boot.img fastboot flash userdata userdata.img fastboot flash system system.img fastboot flash recovery recovery.img fastboot erase cache fastboot reboot

save it and rename it as you want but change the extension to .bat

put this bat file in the firmware folder where you already added adb.exe and fastboot.exe

start your phone, let it go to the main menu, plug in the usb cord and double click on your .bat file. Let it finish and that's it, you have version 1.2

The Good Now that I have 1.2, I have access to french language and many others. The options are more precise and the phone is overall better to use.

"The Bad" You'll have a lot of test apps to delete, but nothing too complicated

The Ugly I get again the message saying that there is an update for the marketplace, but when I try to install it... it downloads a little bit then nothing. If I try to check manually for update, I get an error.

Thank you for helping me fix almost anything. If you know how to fix the marketplace upgrade and the manual search for updates problems, that would be great. Otherwise, thanks again for the help.

I must add one thing: if I install the 1.2 update and I try a factory reset (either in the setting menu or by using the volume up button when I start my phone), the phone gets stuck at the firefox logo screen and does nothing, I cannot access the phone and must reflash again.

more options

Socialiste, did the factory reset may only take you back to 1.2. Did you try to add the image of 1.1 to the sd card to get it back up and running?

more options

A factory reset brings back the 1.2 version, but it cannot load normally. Only the "volume up" menu may appear. As for the 1.1, it can be installed via flash but it still gets the same error about the marketplace update which cannot download and the impossibility to manually download updates

Hi Socialiste, happy weekend, I found the marketplace update issue that you are experiencing: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=888833

Can you please confirm the build id and the image of the 1.1 image that you are using? According to the bug there was a difference in server scheme, but no confirmation.

Is it D300_V08m_00_JUL_21_TLF_ES.zip? If so, please ask the partner who provided the image.

When I was using 1.1, I used US_DEV_FFOS_V1.1.0B04_UNFUS_SD.zip downloaded from ZTE Website, in the United Kingdom section, the American Release. (http://www.ztedevices.com/support/smart_phone/b5a2981a-1714-4ac7-89e1-630e93e220f8.html)

Right now, I'm using 1.2 but the bug is identical. I used P752D04_DEV_US_20131212_v1.2.7z(https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rnj3rja7gd54s98/32KXfFmedN/P752D04_DEV_US_20131212_v1.2.7z)

Both are official ZTE releases, no custom builds

In my phone, here's what I get

Model: roamer2 Software: Boot2Gecko 1.0.0.0-prerelease

System version: 1.2.0.0-prerelease Revision: roamer2 Platform version: 26.0 Version: 20131114004004 Update channel: inari/1.2.0/default

Your suggested version D300_V08m_00_JUL_21_TLF_ES.zip doesn't seem to be releated to my phone.
