hi aitch , have you set firefox to never remember a history in the privacy section of the options or using it in a private browsing window?

if so, then what you're seeing is probably the new tracking protection feature in firefox 42 with private browsing in action. however, since this totally optional, you can easily turn it off in the privacy section of the options panel: Turn off Tracking Protection

sorry, philip, but your suggested solution has no effect.

"use tracking protection in private windows" under "tracking" in "privacy" in "options" was checked prior to the latest update and allowed disqus to work perfectly fine.

checked or unchecked since update, disqus not functioning.

any other suggestions?

can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once in order to rule out the interference of an addon? Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

in addition you seem to have a user.js file in your profile folder that (unless created manually) is often a sign of adware on a system. i'd recommend a scan with adwcleaner & malwarebytes which are linked to in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

disqus works when firefox re-started in safe mode.

presence of js attributable to addon quickjava (qj), which i activated to establish whether js being turned off might have affected disqus loadup. so, i don't think this is an issue. disqus not loading with qj on or off.

so, what is it that is being turned off in safe mode that is allowing disqus functionality?!

i'd have a look at your other addons that might contain content-blocking functionality (like adblock or blur)

having established that the problem arises due to an addon compatibility issue, i have in-turn disabled each of the installed addons to establish which is giving rise to the problem.

bingo! when adblock plus is disabled disqus function is reinstated.

so, is there a happy medium: no rampant invasive advertising, whilst retaining recourse to disqus..?

adblock has a mechanism where you could report "false positives"/instances where its filter-lists (they are independently maintained) block too much: https://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started#false-positives

if this doesn't help within a couple of days, you might want to try to switch to a different filterlist in adblock's settings...

i am able to restore disqus functionality by disabling adblock plus on a page-by-page basis on different Websites.

as such, is this a developer issue for the author of said add on, and how can he be alerted to the conflict?
