Suddenly a couple of days ago I cannot sign in to hotmail from firefox as I have been doing for 2 yrs daily. I cleared cookies and cache and the sign in fields appear but then it comes back as unable to sign in. I also disabled all add-ons with the same result. Hotmail works fine in IE

Can you login while in Private Browsing mode?

To see all History and Cookie settings, choose:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Select: [X] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

Hi Thanks for the reply. I tried the Private Browsing mode but still get the "This Site May be Experiencing a Problem" page. IE still works fine and every other sign in via Firefox on other sites works without issue...just Hotmail. Very strange.

Hi mha007, thanks for the reply. I deleted the cookies.sqlite file, there was no cookies.sqlite-journal file. This time, it told me that my password was wrong...the same password I use to sign in on IE., I retyped the correct password and got the same "This site may be experiencing a problem" When I clear all cookies and reload, the page changes from the "This site may be experiencing a problem" page to the sign in page but when I click "Sign In", the merry-go-round starts again. All of the addons are disabled. I have not tried it yet with AVG and /or Zonealarm disabled, which I will do right now.

Well, with AVG and ZoneAlarm disabled I get the same result. I better quit for today, my head hurts ;)

You can also try to reload the web page(s) and bypass the cache.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

Try Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear cookies, cache, and Active Logins.
If you've just tried to login then a time range of last hour may be sufficient.

  • Tools > Clear Recent History

I remembered I had an old hotmail account linked to my main account, so I tried to sign in with the old account. First attemp it told me the password was wrong...it wasn't but I went through the reset procedure anyway and reset to the same password. It told me THAT one was wrong, but I retyped the same password a second time...it worked! So, over to the right of that account to toggle to the main account and the same damn "This site may be experiencing a problem" page !!!! I can sign in to MSN etc but cannot toggle to my main Hotmail account from anywhere! This is VERY strange. Again, in IE it all works as it should, toggling and all.

Hey all....I awkened at 12:35 am with a thought about what might be wrong and it's one thing I did not think to check. I went through all the blocked cookies. I went through 3 times and did not see anything Live, msn, hotmail etc that I had blocked but then I thought what the heck, and deleted everything, blocked or allowed. Went back and tried to sign in and....it worked! Now, I have no idea which blocked cookie it was because none were obvious to me and the ones that came up for approval to allow or not during sign-in all were live.com cookies. Anyway, thanks a million for your help...I did learn a few things on this one from you all, so it was a good experience. Best of all, I don't have to use IE anymore! :) Paddy
