many of the websites i want to use say they are not secure. If i block the images, would this make them secure. or should i just get out of there asap

Images are only part of the problem.

There can be hidden images (web bugs) in the HTML code, or malicious scripts.

If you know these sites are malicious, you shouldn't be going there in the first place.

If you just have to, use Sandboxie or browse them from inside a virtual machine.
