Can't re-add a device to Firefox Sync account

Today my Firefox threw a fit and I had to reinstall it. When it was reinstalled it had remembered that my Firefox was synced to my account, but I noticed that none of my history or bookmarks are there. Looking on my phone they're still there. So I decide to remove the account from Firefox so I can add it again and it will pull in the bookmarks etc.

I remove the account fine, go to setup the account in Sync, about:acounts comes up, the get started button appears, I click on that and nothing.... The welcome to sync box in the middle disappears, the mozilla icon in the top right stays put, but there is nothing loaded in the main part of the page. I can't add this Firefox back to my synced account.

I saw an old post saying this might happen if you're not saving cookies, but firefox is configured to remember everything. Is there any way to fix this? Or do I have to uninstall and reinstall?

Before making any changes, please make a back up of the profiles that the account is or is not attached to.

Second, make sure that the account is not on the new one and the ones working are not on the old sync. Easiest way is to try to login in at accounts.firefox.com. If it works, you are on the new version of sync, if the account is not recognized, you can create a new one or un-attach the account and add it to the new one.
