I am trying to open up my Mozilla Firefox but I'm having a problem. When I try to open it up the Mozilla icon shows up at the bottom of the screen in the task bar. If I put my pointer on the icon at the bottom of the screen it shows the minimized screen in a little box above the icon. However, when I try to maximize the screen so that I can work on it a faded version of the web page shows up as a faded box that travels from the bottom of the screen near the icon on the task bar over to the right-hand side of my screen where the faded version then disappears off the right-hand side of the screen. No matter what I have tried has restored the webpage to where I can use it. It just remains in the minimized version. I have tried opening the webpage and then closing it through the task manager in case the program was hung up somehow and I have tried uninstalling the program and then opening up my internet explorer and downloading the program again and it still hasn't helped. Can anyone help me fix this problem?

It sounds like your main Firefox window is positioned somewhere outside your visible screen. Try this: hold down the Windows key on your keyboard, and simultaneously press the up arrow key on your keyboard (Win + up). This will hopefully maximize Firefox into the visible workspace.

Another shortcut for maximizing the currently active window is to press Alt+Spacebar followed by x for maximize.

A past thread on this problem: opens off monitor screen.

Do you have multiple monitors by any chance? If so, can you set the monitor where you want Firefox to "primary"?

If this problem persists -- in other words, if Firefox stops saving the new position of its window(s) correctly between sessions -- the settings file that stores the last window position may be corrupted. You could try removing that file and let Firefox use its default sizing and positioning. Note: this also will default some toolbar customizations.

Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button to open a new window showing your currently active settings files.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old

Start Firefox back up again. Is the window visible?
