YouTube "An error occurred. Please try again later"
Firefox 61.0.1 Mint Linux 18.3 Cinnamon
When I try to watch Youtube videos in firefox I get the error message
"An error occurred. Please try again later"
- it doesn't happen on all Youtube videos
- it doesn't happen at all in Chrome
I found this earlier iteration of this questions being asked
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1228691
I turned off the hardware acceleration option and the privacy shield protection. I also flushed my cache, history, and all other private data.
No luck.
It seemed like this started a few days ago after I ran an automatic update of my system.
Any other suggestions for possible fixes would be welcome.

You can open the YouTube test page to check support in Firefox for playing HTML5 media.
You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution in case of issue caused by Ubuntu modifications.
Still have the problem.
I went to the Youtube test page and the checkbox titled
" The HTML5 player is currently used when possible. " was checked.
I created a test profile, no addons, nothing but a bookmark of a Youtube video I knew would crash. It did. The problems was in the test profile as well.
I downloaded a fresh copy of Firefox from the Firefox site. I used my test profile that had nothing in it but a single bookmark. The problem still existed there too.
Thanks for the ideas of things to try.
