Why does Firefox redownload (sometimes?) media, when it's already on my computer (can't find it in cache though)

Hello and thanks for your support!

An example of my problem is when I view a video and loading has finished, then I click on "Save as..." it gets downloaded again. Why is that? And can I change that? Because sometimes I can't download media anymore, because of a (session) timeout or something. I can still play the media file then, even when offline, if that window/ tab is still open, but if I want to get it out of Firefox, there's no way.

Is there a solution for this?

Regards

When you are viewing something in the browser, it gets saved to the temporary memory / cache. If you choose to download, that is some- thing else. There are add-ons that can help with that.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

If I see a file that looks interesting, I just download it for later, and continue web surfing.

Thanks. I was wondering why the save button starts a new download instead of copying from cache/memory. Why was it implemented like that? Would it not be considered a useful addition to Firefox to not download again but copy from cache? Because that's what I think and I don't understand why Firefox does not behave like that.

I guess I'll look into that and look for more appropriate places to discuss it :-)

(BTW nice work for making the back-button reinsert this text here :D I thought I lost it!)
