Firefox is opening 10+ windows when I open it, just installed new version a few days ago

I updated to Firefox 4.0 last week and it was working fine and then it started opening multiple windows upon initial start up. This happens no matter if I've hibernated or completely shut down my computer. I have a PC running Windows XP. So I start my computer click on the Firefox icon to open and it opens up 10 or more Firefox windows, I have to close all but one and then it seems to work fine.
