I installed a fresh copy of Linux Mint 15 (Cinnemon) recently. It comes pre-packaged with Firefox, but after setting the homepage back to the default (about:home), I noticed that the search bar on that page wasn't working. By that I mean the form does not submit neither by pressing Enter or clicking the "Search" button.

I've removed all add-ons, removed and reinstalled Firefox a few times, tried the Reset feature, deleted and recreated profiles, manually reset config options to default, and anything else I could think of. Nothing has helped.

Some users with a similar issue have mentioned that deleted chromeappsstore.sqlite helped, but this file is never even created for me. Additionally, localStorage["search-engine"] is undefined according to the console, yet Google is set as the defaultenginename.

Any ideas on what else to try?

Within the last couple days, Firefox has had a lot of problems.

When I open it, the window hangs and freezes after a few seconds, if it opens at all. Other times, trying to open Firefox simply won't open the window, but will leave an extra process running in the background that I have to manually shut down via Task Manager.

I have made a fresh profile. I have restarted Firefox. I previously had hardware acceleration checked, and disabled it; still having the same problem. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox multiple times. I have run a scan of my system with Malwarebytes; nothing detected. It's not even generating a crash log. I have looked through the support forums, found people with problems similar to mine, but no solutions posted for them since sometime last month.

Firefox seems to run normally if do an install of version 21, which opens up the browser window. Everything works fine, until I close the browser and then re-open it.

I am currently using a datepicker from jQuery UI 1.10 with a select dropdown so that the user can choose year. The "yearpicker" works just fine in other browsers, but in FF21 (i have yet only tested it in this version) it does not work at all. It's like clicking a select-box with no options; the menu does not open and i cannot change the selected option with arrow-keys on my keyboard. It's just static.

I have read some other related posts about similar issues, and the tips given does not solve my problem (like restarting in safe mode, disable all add-ons, disable hardware accelerator, etc). I have also checked for solutions in disabling windows shadow options, but with no success. Since this only appears in FF i assume that this is not an issue with jQuery UI. This looks more like an issue with FF, and due to the history of problems with select-boxes it could be something old that is coming back.

After upgrading to FF 21, search engines no longer appear in the bar on the top right of screen, so no searches are possible. I can navigate to my bookmarks and apparently also to links contained in emails.

If I right-click on the FF icon, and choose the "run as administrator " option, the search engines are there again. I tried deleting the parent.lock file from the profiles folder, as this solution had solved a problem I'd had recently with the previous version of FF (not being able to open FF, and getting the error message about another version of it running, which had to be closed first - but there was no other version running. In that case, too, before finding out about the solution, I was able to open FF by using the "run as administrator" option). However deleting the parent.lock file didn't solve this problem.

I'd be grateful for your help, especially if put in simple terms a not hugely computer-literate person like myself can understand!

This refers to the Plugins section and the updating option. In two previous versions of Firefox the plugins check tells me I need to update to a specific version of Adobe Reader, despite the fact I have laready done so. Does this mean Firefox is vulnerable, or Reader? Is it a problem or just a software glitch. Bearing in mind the complexity of Reader (which I need for work related reasons) I hope this doesn't indicate a serious issue rather than a transient one.

I already read article about removed Status Bar, but supposed substitute (pop-up line showing status "waiting" when you clicked on link) is not working and does not appear at all. I have to sit and stare at not changing window and guess what is going on. Loss of time and frustrating.

Example: This Mozilla Support website. After clicking on Ask a question and going through the steps, the screen Register or "I already have an account" appear. Clicking on "I already have an account" does nothing, no "waiting", no "connecting", no matter how long you wait or if you clicked on it again. Status bar in the past would help with this.

Any tips on restoring this functionality?

Thank you.

I have used Firefox for years, and am very happy with it overall. When I get the messages that the newest version is available to download, I click on the prompt but the update doesn't work; just sits there trying and trying. So, I go to the Firefox website and download the latest version, and when I try to install it I get this message: "The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again." This message doesn't make sense to me ... and so I'm stuck.

As the previous thread was closed without actual resolution - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/941350?esab=a&s=&r=0&as=s

I managed to solve this on my end by just reinstalling firefox using the localisation of the default dictionary language i wanted from here - http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

A bit of a shame that the main download page doesnt select the geographically relevant localisation for you and even more so that changing the default language for the in built spell checker is so kak. oh well.

Version 223 does not allow for passwords to be saved. I am NOT in the Private viewing mode. The ""Remember Passwords for sites" box under Tools/ Options/ Security is checked. "remember History" shows on Tools/ Options/ Privacy. As I said: Save passwords is no longer working with version 22. It worked on version 21. No settings were made with this upgrade. I am on another computer that does NOT have version 22 on it. I refuse to upgrade this computer.

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 series laptop with an AMD A8 APU, 750 Gb HD, 16 Gb Ram. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64bit (also Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit). While on Ubuntu, I use Firefox 21.0 and Chromium. My problem is that Firefox will without warning dim the computer screen and lockup the entire system rendering the computer to be unresponsive to any command. This "Lockup" state will last as long as 60 seconds or more. There are NO error messages! However, after an unpredictable period of time, the computer will suddenly come back to life as if nothing had happened AND will execute every mouse command which was created during the "Lockup" period. Most of the time (but not always), this "Lockup" condition begins when I try to view a video through the Internet. Again, this "Lockup" condition is completely unpredictable and will last for various unknown time periods. I do NOT experience this situation when using Chromium. This problem is not the end of the world, but can be extremely frustrating....enough to stop using Mozilla Firefox. Is there any explanation for this problem? Is there any setting that I can adjust to correct this problem? I always update whatever software that is suggested by Ubuntu. I believe that I am reasonably current in all Ubuntu software. Please help me. Thank you.

I just updated my browser to version 21.0 and in doing so 'lost' some of my most frequently used search engines. A look into the searchplugins folder revealed that all previously listed OpenSearch Description files are gone except those of the search engines I'm missing. Trying to reinstall some of them, I realize most of the missing search engines are for sites that themselves do not provide them like http://www.wikimindmap.org and http://www.goodreads.com so I must have gotten them form third-party sides but in previews versions they just worked fine.
