Windows 7 Professional 64-bit FF 18.0.1

My home page is set to www.yahoo.com When I click on the home icon (or type the same address in the Address bar), the address bar changes to http://www.yahoo.akadns.net/ and the server not found ff built in error page displays I have the live http headers add-on, and there is no actual http request sent.

FF simply will not let me reach www.yahoo.com by typing in the address bar, it always 'rewrites' the address as http://www.yahoo.akadns.net/

I can reach www.yahoo.com in other browsers, via dns (nslookup), and other yahoo addresses (e.g. my.yahoo.com). This sure sounds like malware and is a bit frightening

Ever since Firefox 18.0.1 I can not do the automatic check of plug ins. I go to the Add On Manager, click on "Check if your plug ins are up to date" on the left upper corner and then Firefox freezes. Getting a "This program is not responding" message. I can do the check for updates on plugins but I can not go to the pages where the add ons are checked.

Flash just started causing Firefox to freeze (not crash, therefore; no crash id's (Correction Below)). It was working fine until an hour or two ago. Also, Firefox now freezes on other sites. This just started less then 30 mintues ago. It seems, there are a few ways to 'temporarily' fix the issue, but it always occurs again immediately. First, if I use task manager to end the Adobe Flash process, Firefox unfreezes. Second, as far as it freezing on other sites, the only way to unfreeze Firefox is to end task on the Plugin Container for Firefox process.

I find it weird that this just started happened with no cause. I have not made any changes to my computer in months (neither software nor hardware wise) and I know I don't have any virus' or the like as I keep that very well in check.

As far as what I have done to 'attempt' fixing this issue, I have already tried updating Flash, downgrading Flash to 10.3, upgrading Flash back to 11.x. Restarting Firefox, rebooting the computer, booting into safe-mode, running Firefox in Safe-Mode, uninstalling & reinstalling Firefox (with a reboot in between). Nothing has fixed this issue. Any help would be very much appreciated.

P.S. I have no issues of any kind in IE, Chrome, nor Opera so I know this is a Firefox issue.

P.P.S. Checked about:crashes and found that Firefox actually made crash information on the flash plugin (but don't see one on the plugin container issue). Anyways, it was throttled so sent it on. Here is the information on that;

https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/939e22d2-0cec-45f5-8838-a4b4f2130126

Keep in mind, this was before I reinstalled Firefox, no new entries since reinstall.

if firefox is open and system goes into standby, whe I return from standby (press power button on front of machine and then log in) firefox is unresponsive. Sometimes it will go to a new web page if I click a link in the open page, but the link fails to change color. And it is very slow. Other times it is completely unresponsive. I have to close it and then restart it to get it to work. All open tabs are then lost. Tried resetting and disabling all add ons/extensions. problem began when updated to v18.

I've always used Firefox as my default browser. A few months ago, on my Windows 8 laptop (I always use it in desktop mode), I downloaded Nightly, because I wanted a 64 bit browser so that I could install 64 bit Java to make Minecraft run faster. At the time, I didn't know about Waterfox. Recently, I've been having a problem with Nightly where when I right-click on anything using Adobe Flash Player (flash games, YouTube videos, etc.) the plugin would crash. This doesn't happen in Internet Explorer, normal Firefox, or Waterfox. For that reason, and because I know nothing about programming and therefore Nightly was kinda pointless to me, and because the daily updates were kinda annoying, I wanted to change my default browser. I downloaded Waterfox and Pale Moon. I found I didn't like Pale Moon's different layout, so I never touched it again. I attempted to make Waterfox my default browser, but I ran into problems. Under Control Panel --> Default Programs --> Set Default Programs, Waterfox doesn't appear, but Nightly and Pale Moon do. However, Nightly and Pale Moon have the Waterfox logo instead of their own logos, but only under Control Panel --> Default Programs --> Set Default Programs. I'm not sure exactly what I did, but now, when I click on a link without any web browsers open (such as in Skype's instant Messenger) it acts like Nightly isn't my default browser, but under Control Panel --> Default Programs --> Set Default Programs it says it is. In the Waterfox options, it says that it's the default browser, and in the Nightly options, it says it isn't, but my computer thinks Nightly is the default. I am very confused, can anyone help me with this?

I have FF 18.0.1 running on a VISTA Home Premium system and whenever I enable the Norton Toolbar (2013.2.1.36) -- updated as of 1/20/2013), FF always crashes when I close the browser. The only way I can prevent the crashes is to disable the Norton Tool Bar. All of this worked find prior to FF 18.0

I have been to the Norton Community website and there are multiple posts about this, but to date, the problem is NOT fixed. Norton adms apparently are aware of this problem.

Does anyone in the Mozilla community know when this will be resolved and who has ultimate responsibility for fixing it -- Mozilla or Norton?

I also have a Windows 8 Pro system on a laptop--and there is NO problem whatsoever there.

When out of town I use a MiFi with my phone, but Firefox has started its own pop-ups that I don't see (other than at bottom of screen) and as it downloads video and other streaming data, it is eating up my allowed data. How do I stop Firefox from opening a separate window with its pop-up in it? I have tried going back to an older version, but it is still happening, as it must be something within Firefox.

Firefox is set to Remember History on the Options tab under privacy. But I am continually losing the browsing histor when I restart Firefox or restart the computer. I have reset Firefox to defaults more times than I care to remember. Managing Firefox requires more time and effort that it is worth at this point. I am not going to rebuild Firefox from scratch ever again. If the only way to correct this problem is to start over, I will quit Firefox and switch to Chrome. Although I have been using Firefox since 2004 or 5, I've seen its performance degrade in recent years. If anyone can tell me how to cause my history to be saved, I will continue with Firefox, if not, I'm done.

We host our own website, which has links to Revit drawings. When someone clicks a link to a Revit drawing from Firefox it shows a screen with garbage characters. Someone can link to the same drawing from Internet Explorer and it displays properly. The user has to have the software to view Revit drawings, of course. In Internet Explorer, if the user doesn't have the software they see a message asking them to select a program to open it. If they do have the software, the file opens. In Firefox, if the user does or does not have the software, either way, a screen appears with garbage characters when they click on a link to a revit drawing. Thanks in advance to anyone with a solution!
