I am helping somebody troubleshoot some issues with a new PC and they are using Firefox browser. They have some other PCs with Firefox as well, all running Windows 10 21H1 and up-to-date versions of Firefox. When they download files, the dialog asking to open or save is missing the option to "do this automatically for files like this from now on". It is present and works on the other PCs but not the new one. It doesn't matter what the file type is or where it comes from. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

We just bought a new HP computer with Windows 11 and I'm trying to install Firefox. I d/l the file from the Mozilla website, clicked on the file that d/l and the installation begins. The installation progresses until the bar indicates it's over 1/2 way done. Then all of a sudden the screen changes to show a blank tab name and the file area says something about a Google search. What am I supposed to do with this page since I don't know what I'm supposed to search for. I don't see a way to get back to the installation page. I just want to install Firefox so why all this runaround without an installation?

Since the update to FF 98.0 I cannot click on a .zip file & have it open to Windows File Explorer. It only allows me to download & save the .zip file and then extract the files from there. I have to click on dozens of these files per day for my job & would rather not have to save each .zip file & then extract the file contents. In Settings > Applications, .zip files are not on the list of file types or applications. Is there a way to add them to the list? Is there some other work-around? Thank you!

Hi,

To get myself off MS Edge (as its Chromium based), I've come back to FF. But after I tried installing firefox standard and even the Extended Support Release I can not run it for the first time - I get this error

Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.

I've followed the advice in the help pages, but it hasnt fixed the issue

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles#w_start-the-profile-manager-when-firefox-is-closed

The same happens when I run

firefox -p

The firefox App Data folder contains no profile file at all....

IMO the installer is simply too strict on demanding exact version of SP ! https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/52.9.0/system-requirements/

I went through the list of versions (thanks Mozilla that they all are still available!) and found that the last version I can install is... version... 12.0b6. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/12.0/system-requirements/

And indeed I installed 12.0b6 successfully but I would like to install 52.9.

Attempting to download Firefox on MacBook Pro Monterey 12.2 through Safari. When I hit Download, a progress bar flashes briefly, then disappears. When I open Show Downloads in Safari, I get what you see in the first attachment. When searching for the file, I get a second message stating file has not been created (second attachment). Interestingly, I'm having exactly the same problem with Libre Office. I've checked all the settings I know in OS System Preferences and in Safari.

My HP Omen has 2 hard drives. Originally, Firefox was installed on the C: drive and working perfectly. In order to clear up space, I tried to use the Windows Move feature to move the program from the C: drive to the secondary (and larger) E: drive. Since then, Firefox won't work aside from opening a Firefox window. It will load no pages, settings, etc.

I've tried uninstalling Firefox from both the C: and E: drives. Searched for any remaining files and deleted them. Deleted Old Firefox Data folders. I've reinstalled Firefox, without the option of where to install it, but it still fails to work at all. I get an error message regarding a missing file, VCRUNTIME140_1.dll. I've searched for the file and it's NOT missing. It is in both the Firefox folder and the Windows/Systems32 folder.

I've searched for data in the Users folders that might relate to Firefox but NOTHING seems to work that will allow Firefox to work again. I've tried putting Firefox in Troubleshooting Mode but it won't restart as it says it needs to. It just won't work!

If anyone can just tell me how to COMPLETELY remove Firefox from both hard drives so that I can just do a clean, new Firefox install, that would be preferable. I know how to import bookmarks from Chrome.

If anyone can offer some help for someone who isn't great with computers, I would greatly appreciate it. If you need any other information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi there.

This is my first post so bare with me.  :-)

We are deploying the 32-bit version of the Firefox Browser to 4 700 clients and the 64-bit version to only 8 clients; all clients on a 64-bit Windows 10 environment. We will migrate to Windows 11 22H2 this year. The manager for the 8 clients says he wants the 64-bits version just because it's...64-bits. No other reason.

I've read that the 64-bit version can not handle Java, Media Players like VLC and mayby some other plugins. Is that still so?

What is the main reason TODAY for using 64-bit Firefox Browser instead of 32-bit, except for the use of 4 GB+ RAM?

i wish there was a "Comments" section on https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/mac/ so i could tell people "NEVER use this!!"

i tried last week, downloaded and installed. The installation process, after unpacking the download, tried to install a "helper application". Popped up a dialog box asking for an admin userid+passwd. (even though i was obviously already running as an admin user... because i was in the middle of doing the install.) This was not an iOS dialog box from Apple, and it didn't have an option for scanning my fingerprint; this was something the "helper app" was doing on its own. Well i gave it my userid+password, and it went on to say the installation failed, and bombed out with no Firefox installed on my machine. Now, for all i know, my credentials are out there, God only knows where. So i had to go change my passwd on all of my machines.  :(

Dear community,

As I use a few self-made unsigned add-ons, for several years now I have been using the Firefox unbranded builds on Linux with great joy. In the past these became available for download shortly after a regular Firefox was released. Lately though things have changed. The current latest release for unbranded is stalling at version 107. So it's getting further and further away from the official Firefox, which is at 109 at the time of writing.

Obviously I'm concerned my unbranded Firefox is not getting the same security updates any longer. I do realize there's alternatives for supporting unsigned add-ons. Running a Firefox nightly or developer-edition is something I'd want to avoid, so for me these aren't real alternatives. I've also tried tracking unbranded info on bugzilla.mozilla.org, but couldn't find anything relating to this 'lag'.

Where can I find more info on this topic? Are these unbranded builds being discontinuated?

Thanks for reading, keep well!

Hi. I'm trying to download an installer .msi file from a valid link. If I do this in Chrome it simply pops it into the Downloads folder as it should. In Firefox, it downloads and then displays as a text page of garbage. It seems the file is wrongly defined as text/plain on the server rather than as a binary.

However, I've looked into my Firefox settings to see if I can define the handling behaviour of that file type. I can't! Amazingly to me, the .msi file type can not be added to the list manually. There is no "Add File Type" functionality in there. It seems as though I have to handle the file in Firefox for it to see that that type exists and then it will let me add it to the Downloads/Applications area of settings.

I can right click on the link and choose Save File As which gets round it, but then I still cannot see the .msi file type to add it to the Applications list. Can anyone tell me what I am missing here?
