I own a few web applications. When a user says they're seeing a "Secure Connection Failed" message, the error message is worded in a nice way that a non-technical audience can easily understand and get a feel of what may be going on.

But, for me to fix the problem, I need more details, regarding what exactly, on a technical level, is Firefox trying to convey?

Is there a configuration setting or something that I can enable to make it print out the "technical garbage" that can de-humanize the message?

For example, instead of saying "The page cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.", could it say something straight, specific and un-ambiguous, maybe "CN mismatch. Tried connecting to abc.foo.com. Was presented a certificate issued to xyz.bar.com. Won't connect."

Thank you.

Ever since updating to 38.0.5, it seems like I keep running into one problem after another. Right now, one I'm trying to get figured out is the regular crashing I've been experiencing. Every time Firefox crashes, I get a dialog window stating the the Plugin Container has stopped working. Common suggestions I've seen are enable protected mode for Shockwave and disabling hardware acceleration, both of which I have already tried. With the exception of Adobe Reader, all of my plugins are up to date. I have tried testing in Safe Mode, but it's hard to say if that makes a difference or not because these crashes don't seem to be caused by anything specific. Sometimes it happens when trying to watch a video, sometimes it happens while reading an email, sometimes it happens when I've been away from the computer for 20 minutes. I have no idea what sets it off. I tried updating to the latest ESR version of Firefox, but I experienced another crash within 5 minutes. Looking through my crashes, an Nvidia-related file is always highlighted in red, but I have already updated my drivers within the last few days. But I don't even know how to read this reports, so it may not even be related. Here are my last 5 reports, starting with the most recent:

Earlier this week after upgrading I had an issue in which pages weren’t rendering. It turned out to be a simple settings change in options which was easily resolved here by cor-el. I’m hoping this will be as easy.

Running Win 7 Pro SP1. Upgraded to FF 38.01 ESR from a much older version. I only felt comfortable doing so because the most essential extensions for my visual needs were available, one of which is Tree Style Tabs. This is huge issue for me.

Once things were rendering correctly I was doing some work and the tree style tabs were working great as usual. Missing some of the features and visuals of my no longer compatible old themes I started to customize the toolbar with the Undo Closed Tab button (which is now disabled), the Restartless Restart button and a few others. I also looked for a few new themes and disabled a few old extensions after a few restarts things were still fine with the Tree Style Tabs.

After last restart suddenly Tree tabs was gone! It remains listed and enabled in add ons but it is not showing up on browser.

I’ve tried disabling it, restarting, removing/ reinstalling different versions, rebooting I’ve disabled and/or removed all add ons, restarted everything etc.. Then disabled everything and only enabled Tree Style Tabs and still doesn’t work.

I returned to the default theme, tried other themes but nothing has brought it back.

PLEASE help me get them back! Visual issues make it difficult for me to see the tabs w/o this add on. And I have tried other tab options, believe me.

I am not tech savvy but I will try. I can't risk losing my info with a reset of FF. Is there another way?

Any help as soon as possible would be very gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance,

For authenticating one product it needs to set some cookies. But the cookies are not getting set up. We collected the trace using fiddler. We can see that cookies are available in the response but some how next request is not carrying those cookies.

- No proxies for firefox. - We even added the fqdn in trusted site list. - Cookies are enabled.

Information attached: 1) Fiddler trace file. 2) Screenshots

Appreciate any help for narrowing down the issue.

I closed FF, turned off laptop, next morning turned on laptop and started my FF browser as usual. Absolutely nothing was changed from turning off to turning on. No updates/anything. When FF opens it’s not displaying web pages correctly. The graphics are limited and the formatting is gone and it looks like just plain text but page structure is recognizable. All other browsers work fine. I have attached a screen shot of IE and FF side by side. After searching for help for many hours over several days and trying many Mozilla troubleshooting suggestions the problem remains.

I am running Win 7 Pro and have been using FF24. But after problems started I updated to FF 38.01 ESR (ESR for the stability)  Please don’t judge. I haven't upgraded until now because some favorite extensions are not compatible and I have customized it for my visual needs. I have difficulty using IE and Chrome and prefer FF.

So far I have :

• updated, disabled all add-ons and plug ins, then enabled suggested ones like java and flash, the default theme is selected. • I have tried all suggestions from this page that are applicable to FFv38: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-problems-images-not-show - In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. Find browser.display.use_document_colors in the list of preferences. It should be set to true by default. Right-click on the preference if its value has been set to false and select Reset. It was set to false and reset did not change to true so I modified to true. No change – should I change it back? • Clear cookies and cache, Check image permissions for a specific websites, checked Security software • Followed solutions to these links from the page above Images load the first time but not later Images load but look wrong Other reasons why images may not load Images still do not load correctly

• Drivers are all up to date for graphics cards (Hybrid graphics has been both enabled and disabled and no difference). My NVIDIA driver was out of date and I updated it after problem began but no help • turning off/on hardware acceleration doesn’t work • start in Firefox Safe Mode no change • Scanned multiple times with malaware Bytes and Avast

I’m willing to follow very specific instructions but I do much better talking with someone. Every service in my area wants to keep my laptop for at least a week and that would be a great hardship for my work. Again, please don’t judge, I wish this all came more naturally but it doesn’t. I am not very tech savvy and have not had much success in the past backing up and restoring profiles etc. in the past so I’m trying to avoid that. But if it is absolutely essential I will do it w/ very specific instructions. Would someone please please please help out? I just want my FF to work. THANK YOU!

on firefox 38.1.0 running on centOS 6.6 I'm having issue with TLS.

when this first happened I re did the cert using 2048 byte keys. This seemed to take care of the issue when navigating to addresses similar to https://localhost/somesite, however, if I try https://localhost:10000 it always fails with:

An error occurred during a connection to localhost.localdomain:10000. The server certificate included a public key that was too weak. (Error code: ssl_error_weak_server_cert_key)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

The certificate Signature algorithim is -> PKCS #1 SHA-1 With RSA Encryption

The public key algorithim is -> PKCS #1 RSA Encryption

The key was create on 07/06/15 for a 10 year period, It is a Version 1 cert issued by myself with the following info E = ctmattice@permitepaints.com CN = localhost OU = hq O = permite L = Stone Mountain ST = ga C = us

I am having a problem on one computer related to bank login. Debian Stretch Iceweasle 38.1

I have cleared ~/.mozilla have no addons or extensions.

If I log on to the bank as normal, I get 'secure connection failed' In chromium I get the page was reset.

If I log in using a new private window it connects o.k.

I have a laptop with similar setup that does not have this problem.

I've renewed ca-certificates, and I can't think what else to change. It is not a Firefox problem as Chromium also fails but if you have any idea what else common could cause this I would be grateful.

a google search resulted with the private mode by somebody whith a problem in chrome and a comentor suggested incognito mode.

So I tried private window in Iceweasle and it worked. Did not try Chromium as I only installed it for this problem!

Many thanks for everything.

Hello all, newbie here with a weird problem. Looooong time FF user and could not care less about IE or Chrome. I recently did a backup of my net surfer Acer Aspire One with Win7 Starter, as I have before, to an external and all seemed fine except when I tried to launch FF, I got a message that the shortcut can't locate "firefox.exe", do I want to delete the shortcut? WTH? So I try searching the entire computer for it and sure enough, it is gone. So I try to reinstall FF using an .exe from a previous install upgrade and though it acted as if it might work but then I got the "installation interrupted" message. Bleerg.

Ok, so then I open IE11 to come here to download a fresh copy to start from scratch. IE seems to find the Mozilla download page just fine but it displays a blank window. I can see some elements of the download page, but not the necessary parts, which are visible on IE on my Toshiba (which I did to see what I was missing). I tried the same with Chrome just in case IE was, ahem, ignoring Mozilla. Nope, same issue with it.

So now I run CCleaner Registry Cleaner to see what might show up and lo and behold there are a handful of firefox.exe issues. As I am on my Toshiba to ask for help, I'll have to manually type in what I'm being shown on my Acer:

Just prior to running CCleaner, I did all the pending Windows Updates except for the one published this week. I always wait a month. I have Fixed All Selected Issues.

But what I didn't see was anything related to IE11.

I uninstalled what I could of FF but I do still have the Mozilla Maintenance Service 29.0.1 installed, if that's of any help to whoever can give me some help.

I briefly considered emailing the installer files to myself so I can open gmail via IE11 to see if I could sneak FF in that way but I think gmail doesn't allow .exe file attachments.

Any help from the FF big brains and big brained FF community members will be very appreciated.
