Making a custom DuckDuckGo default search engine doesn't work. Can someone please fix this?

The custom parameters for DuckDuckGo are ?q=search& but it won't accept it unless I type ?q=%s& which makes the url nonexistent. This is extremely frustrating. In version 8 it allowed me to enter anything so it worked then. Now it's broken.
