All my incoming messages are opening as a message to be sent out.

After downloading new messages to my inbox, I started opening them to read them but they are all opening as "write" messages, with my address in the From box at the top and addressed to whoever had sent me the email. If I right click and choose "open in a new tab" they open properly but that is a temporary workaround. These are being downloaded to my desktop, if it makes any difference.
