If the shockwave flash plugin is enabled on version >22, visiting a site that contains flash content will cause Firefox to hang/react extremely slowly. I've tried disabling all add-ons with no effect. I'm using shockwave flash 11.2.r202.310 but it doesn't seem to matter when version of flash I use.

Hi there did you manage to sort out you Adobe Shockwave Flash crashing in fox

I had the same problem no net based Vids would play at all Not Iplayer, you tube nothing the screen/vid box would be grey or black

Its just taken me 19 hours to do it but its mended

On the top of the firefox page hit tools then from the drop down menue sect options.

when the window opens at the top select ADVANCED

on that page you will see a box with (Use Hardware acceleration when available)

YOU NEED TO UN CHECK/TICK THAT BOX

Its as simple as that good luck .........Date I posted this fix (15/01/2014)

Please ensure that your Firewall/Antivirus program(s) are not interfering with how Firefox connects to the internet.

Ensure that your internet connection is strong and fast.

Does this issue occur on other internet browsers?

Make sure that Flashblock or one of the other extension aren't the cause of this hang.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Thanks for the replies guys.

ComputerWhiz: No firewall or AV installed on my laptop.

cor-el: Nothing works. It is the shockwave flash plugin + >=v23 that is the problem. I've tried safemode, I've completely deleted everything eg moving the .mozilla directory and started a virgin firefox with the same results.

OH NO!

You don't have any antivirus or firewall programs installed and active on your computer!

Purchase/download a firewall and antivirus program as soon as possible!

Then run a full scan of your computer's hard drives.

Your Adobe Flash Player could have been damaged by a virus or malware.

There is no need of a AV on Linux at all, or much malware (some rootkits, not very many) to infect it.

@Waka_Flocka_Flame

Thank you for that information. I didn't know that. Up until a few months ago, I didn't even know what Linux was.

Sorry about my above answer.
