I just upgraded to Firefox 13.0 on Windows and noticed that alt-click no longer triggers the "Save target as" function. Does this now need to be configured by the user?

hey mrgou, this feature was disabled per default in firefox 13 - in order to switch it back on, enter about:config into the location bar, search for the preference named browser.altClickSave and toggle it to true by double-clicking on it.

for reference see bug #713052

I think you guys made a bad choice making this change. I work tech support for a smaller website, and being able to offer the quick and easy 'alt click to download the file' solution is one of the reasons I recommend that all users of our site use firefox. This change is going to make things more challenging for my customers in general. "to download the file, right click on the link, then select save link as" "I don't have a right mouse button, I'm on a mac" "To right click on a mac, hold down the control key while you click the link" etc. I'm all for being able to turn off alt clicking to save as, but the default option should stay enabled.

The worst part about this change is that alt clicking a link now appears to do nothing at all! At least make it so that alt clicking a link acts like a standard left click.

Thanks madperson. This worked for me!

I submitted a comment, as I agree with trebnoj. This was a bad choice. The justification seems to be that alt-tab could trigger it, which I don't think is a strong reason enough.
