maintain sort order when importing from IE

When I import my favorites from my desktop to my laptop, I can use an exported part of my registry to restore the sort order on my laptop so it's the same as it is on my desktop.

However, when I imported my favorites on my desktop into Firefox, which I recently installed on my desktop, it's all in alphabetical order, which is NOT the order they are in in IE.

Is there a way to prevent Firefox from sorting everything when importing?

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
That should also preserve the sorting order that you have in IE.

If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.

  • Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):
    File > Import and Export
  • Import the HTML file in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML

See "Import from another browser" and "Import from file":

I did just that but everything is sorted in Firefox which makes it a big nuisance customizing everything back to the way it was in IE.

Why can't Firefox just use the sort order that is already in the registry?
