I am using firefox version 20.0.1 on two machines. One uses windows xp and the other windows 7. Each time I access firefox a message comes up telling me to "turn on cookies." Most of the time it comes up on a separate tab but at times I have to back out and start again. How do I get rid of this message.

hello, please try to reset firefox and see if this can address the issue...

The problem came with the program so there is no sense in trying to reset.

in this case you'd have to provide more context to the problem please. where does the message show up - is it coming from a website/which one? are you using any extensions or other security/tuning software that might be interfering with the cookie management in firefox?

please also see Websites say cookies are blocked - Unblock them.

You can try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

Try to rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can also check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them).
