Previously, when I downloaded a file, a window would open showing the progress of the download and the time remaining until completion, Today nothing, no window. The file downloads and I'm notified when the download is complete. I've done a system restore to no avail. What has changed since I logged off yesterday and logged on this morning??? I'm running windows XP pro

Your Firefox updated to version 20. In version 20, we changed the downloads window to a new downloads panel that is located on the top-right of your screen (see screenshot).

Is there a way to have the download window open automatically when a download begins? For my work I download dozens, sometimes hundreds, of audiofiles each day, in order to edit and repair; I prefer the old download window, it saves me many keystrokes throughout the day and gives me instant feedback (and is less obtrusive).

Thanks!

Information about the new download panel - http://mikeconley.ca/blog/2013/04/02/downloading-stuff-in-firefox-its-better-now/

In Firefox 20 you can open the about:downloads page in a tab. Type about:downloads in the Location/URL bar in a blank tab as it will overwrite whatever is in the currently selected tab. For other "about:" functions type about:about in a blank tab.

You can set the pref browser.download.useToolkitUI to true on the about:config page to restore the old download manager window.

If I revert to FF19 can I get rid of the toxic green download progress indicator in the taskbar? I can find no other way to avoid the thing.

ok now I have the 23.0.1 firefox .. and I cant see nor the old panel, nor the icon indicator or anything .. I know I can always open a tab and write about:downloads but when I am downloading multiple files I have no idea which of them are really working, finishing or the status in general...

I would say that firefox has a downgrade (funcitionality) with the download in this release.

thanks
