How to de-select the 'Tabs on Top' option on Firefox 17.0.1 - Feature removed?
Previous versions of Firefox allowed de-selection of 'Tabs on Top' but this can not be found in version 17.0.1 anymore. Where is the feature and how can I modify tabs location to be below everything like it used to be.
Chosen solution
Type about:config into the address bar and hit enter. Press "I'll be careful" on the silly warning page and find this preference: browser.tabs.onTop
There's a filter near the top to help you find it easier.
Double click it to change it from true to false. The tabs should instantly go back to the bottom.

Current Firefox versions only show the "Tabs on Top" menu entry in the "View > Toolbars" and "Firefox > Options" menu and in toolbar context menus if the tabs aren't in the default position on top.
If the tabs are on top and the menu entry isn't available and you want to move the tabs below the navigation toolbar then you need to flip the browser.tabs.onTop pref to false on the about:config page.
That doesn't address how you remove the "tabs on top" option from the >View>toolbars menu.
Obviously if you've gone to the trouble of changing about:config you don't want the option clogging up your menu and reminding you of the idiotic deefault in the first place.
The Menu Editor add-on provides and interface for hiding most menu items. The exception being most Bookmarks menu items and most History menu items are "Not yet implemented".
