Not all images are being displayed but they do appear with other browsers. This just started happening today. I've tried dropping cookies. Resetting cache. Rebooting. Even uninstalling and reinstalling but the problem still is there.

I'm running on Vista.

If you do not see background images then make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

  • Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
  • Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
  • Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
  • Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).

If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "Block Images from..." then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.image pref should be 1.

There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.

Tried all of the suggestions and none of them worked. Just to clarify, only SOME of the images are not being displayed. Also, when I tried to view just the missing image by entering the URL of the image, instead of displaying the image, I received a message which said ...

The image "http://domainname.com/imagefile.gif" cannot be displayed because it contains errors.

... However, when using Explorer and Chrome, the image is displayed without any problems. Hopefully, this clue will shed some light on the problem.

Thank you in advance.

Can you post a link to a specific web page and add a screenshot to show what is wrong?

I'm experiencing this just about everywhere. Some sites are worse than others. This just started happening a few days ago. Prior to that, it worked fine.

I ran both Avast and Norton scans and neither one found anything. I cleared cookies and cache. I even uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it. The problem continues to happen.

The image link that you posted has ad in the URL (header). You didn't post links, so I can't check the URLs of other images.

Did you check for ad-blocking extensions or software that may be blocking the images by using too general filter rules?

The "image can not displayed because it contains errors" is a placeholder that Firefox displays until the real image has been received and can be rendered instead.
If you see that message then that usually means that the image is blocked somehow.

Did you try Safe mode?

Tried safe mode and that didn't help. Neither did disabling everything. However a reset of firefox did work. That was really weird. Thank you for all of your help. It is greatly appreciate. I thought that I was going to have to give up using firefox. Thanks again and best regards.
