As you have 32-bit Windows and not 64-bit, you may be able to run it in desktop mode but not in Metro mode.

There've been reports that the preview fails to install/run correctly if you're using a 32-bit version of Windows 8.

Also, can you look in the "All Apps" list that you can access by right-clicking a blank spot on the start screen and choosing "All Apps" from the bar that appears, and see if Nightly shows up in there?

It also requires the RTM version of Windows 8, so if you're trying to do this from the release preview, it probably won't work...

A final thing to check is the default program settings. Go to the start screen, and start typing "default", then choose "Default Programs" from the list. In the window that pops up, click "Set Your Default Programs". In the list of programs, select "Nightly", and then click "Set this program as default" to give it all of the defaults. Then go back to the start screen and see if the tile appears there.

i download the lastest nightly build 19.0a1 when i changed the default program into nightly, it's still open in desktop mode. is this a nightly bug ?

It isn't yet in the normal Nightly builds, you'll have to download the Metro Preview build: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-elm/firefox-18.0a1.en-US.win32.installer.exe

Beyond that, the Metro version will only open from the tile on the start screen, and only if it shows the new icon on the tile.

I've installed the lastest nightly build on Windows Pro x64, and it does NOT open in Metro mode on the start screen. Regardless of how I open it, it reverts to desktop mode. Any suggestions?

Try to add the -metrodesktop switch. "C:\Program Files\Nightly\firefox.exe" -metrodesktop

I added the -metrodesktop argument from command line and got the same result. Nightly is installed in the Program Files (x86) directory. Is there a 64-bit version that I need?
