Just press Alt+ Tab once to open the windows list and then release those keys to prevent cycling though all open windows.

Try to use Alt +Tab to see if you can select the lost windows.

When I press that I get screen of icons that circles quickly. when I let go it goes away. What were thinking WOULD happen?

Do you see lost windows appearing in that list that are not on the Taskbar?
Such things can happen on Windows XP.
That has been reported in the past and I've seen it myself.
You can usually switch to such hidden windows via Alt+Tab.

The don't show on my list of open windows (I had 10 open say and now I have 8). When I press alt + tab it quickly scrolls thru a list of icons. Is that what is supposed to happen? thanks
