How do I disable repeated creation of the bookmarkbackups folder?

I asked this 5 years ago and was told to try the two things but:

1. Setting the bookmarkbackups folder to Read Only, does not help.

2. Replacing bookmarkbackups folder with an empty file of the same name, does not prevent bookmarks files from being created.

So manually erasing multiple files/folders *every time, every day* is the only way to delete bookmarks backups if you work for a law firm, etc...

If this is correct, how is this not a security issue?

It is quite easy to stop it saving backups.

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
  3. Locate the preference browser.bookmarks.max_backups, double-click on it and change its value to 0 (zero)

It is not a security issue. The details of your bookmarks are easily accessible without using the backup file. The backup file is just duplicating this information.

Thank you TonyE.

Since the backups contain 5 separate backup dates by default, at least four are not duplicates of the current bookmarks.

Since four previously made (but now deleted) list of bookmarks are accessible after being deleted - that could be a security issue in legal offices, etc., correct?

This is a possible privacy issue, not a security issue. This is stopped by using the method posted above to stop the backups from being created.
