How can I fix disappearing downloads?

Downloads keep disappearing from my download window, what happens is I select save file and then the download window pops up and the file downloads as usual but when it is completed it is removed from my download window. The files are being downloaded and I can find them in my temp folder, but I can not get them to appear in my download window. I tried fixing this by going to options and changing the download location however that does not work, so I'm wondering if its a problem with an addon, firewall, or a glitch with the browser.

i had this same problem...but i found that when i went to appearance and personalization in the control panel and clicked on hidden files and folders, in that section i chose the show hidden files and folders. it shows everything that i downloaded. i don't know why i had to do this because before this wasn't an issue. just yesterday i downloaded a few videos and they weren't showing up in my downloads folder. now it does since i have the show option selected instead of the usual "do not show hidden files and folders". hope this helps.

If the problem is with .exe files (self-extractors) and you have IE8 or higher: Go to Internet Explorer - Options - Security If 'security level' for the Internet zone is 'high', put it on 'normal high' OR Click the 'custom level' button and check the following settings: - Run applications and other unsafe software (put to 'ask') - Download file (put to 'enabled') THis solved it for me. And yes, I'm well aware that we're talking about a Firefox problem here; these settings seem to influence some windows mechanisms which influence Firefox downloads as well.
