Cookies keep disappearing

For a while now i have found that my cookies have disappeared from Firefox, i think i have only experienced this in versions 7.

What happens for example like today, i have launched Firefox and gone to check my Yahoo mail and can see that the sign-in seal is missing, this tells me that the cookies have gone again. If i check other pages where i have cookies in use i can also see that they are not there so not just affecting Yahoo.

I have found through a post on the web can resolve the issue by closing Firefox, then bringing up my profile via %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\, and from within the profile folder moving the 'cookies' - (SQLITE File) to my desktop, and then renaming the 'cookies.sqlite' (BAK Rebuild File), to be 'cookies'. Restarting Firefox and all is resolved.

When this happens again i move the 'cookies' file from my desktop to the recycle bin and start again with the 'cookies - sqlite file' in the profiles folder.

Looking in the recycle bin i can see 19 cookies files since 10th Sept 2011, i think this might have happened before this date but i deleted those files.

This problems occurs often, though not every day, sometimes once a week, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. I thought it would get resolved but keeps happening so thought would raise.

There are no issues when i launch Firefox i.e. any indication of a problem that could indicate why this keeps happening. I regularly update my computer, am using win xp sp3 which is up to date, all plug ins and extensions are upto date as far as i'm aware.

If anyone can advise as this problem doesn't seem to be going a way.

Note to anyone who has this problem, i would make a backup of your profile or cookies files incase rename the wrong one, which i just did, i renamed the cookies.sqlite.bak file by mistake, yes a bit confusing. Luckily i had a back of the profiles folder from 2 weeks ago so not so bad.

Thanks.

Try creating a new profile and using it for a while to see if fixes the problem. If so you might want to move bookmarks, history and other data over to the new profile. Skip moving over cookies.sqlite.

I have been using a new profile for about 2 weeks now and so far so good, have not had any repeat issues with my cookies disappearing so something could have got corrput in my default profile. this problem can therefore be marked as resolved and if any other issues come up will raise again.

Thanks.

How do you create a new profile?

My cookies keep disappearing too, when I have the setting on 'ask me every time'... it never stores them. On IE, I have ask me every time and the ones I have said yes to, stay there. I would like this option. So anyway, to avoid that, I now have to allow all cookies until they expire (except 3rd party).

Another thing, in my exceptions list.... I have a group of cookies that are known to be tracking and give my computer fits and I have to enter them all the time because those will disappear randomly as well. Maybe every 2nd day.

ANY help would be appreciated, thank-you.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.

Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
