How to disable search history (but only search history)?

In the Preferences I can disable "search and form history", but I only want to disable search history as I find the form history useful. So is there any way to disable the search history, and *only* the search history? I have found no obvious setting to do so, but as I am able to clear the search history without touching the form history I assume that these are stored separately and can be disabled separately. So is there something in about:config to do this or elsewhere?

I am running Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 with GNOME 3.20 and Firefox 47.

Please see these help articles. There is rarely any need to use about:config

So is there no way currently to only disable the recording of the searches you make in the top-bar?

No, not that I know of. You could look through the addons in case someone has made an addon. If you search from the search bar using say Google you may delete all those by forgetting about the Google site. Or by deleting the last 5 minutes or something.

OR if you use Private browsing they never get saved in the first place.
