I'm trying to bring all of my Outlook 2007 over to Thunderbird since Office 2007 is no longer supported by MS. I've downloaded 31.8 as directed elsewhere in this group but when I select mail to import, it runs for quite some time (hours) and gets to about 80% on the progress bar then an error window opens that says it can't open a temporary file and save it as a draft. The import process stalls at that point although Thunderbird gives no indication that it has stopped importing. I let t run overnight and the progress bar didn't move any further even though it gave the appearance of being active. The particular file the error message reported does not exist on my computer. See screen dump attached. The "Sent Mail" folders you can see in the screen dump were not imported. They just appeared after I had set up my mail account in Thunderbird. (?) Well, it seems the "add image" function here doesn't work either. It's been saying it's downloading the image for nearly 5 minutes and it's not even 200k, so here's what the error message said - "Unable to save your message as draft. Unable to open the temporary file C:\Users\(me)\AppData\Local\Temp\mapiattach.tmp. Check your 'Temporary Directory' setting." Check the Temporary Directory setting for what, and where is it anyway? Can someone offer any assistance here please?

The hard disk in my PC was malfunctioning and I just managed to transfer all my past e-mails that I had saved (in several folders) onto a CD. There they appear as Thunderbird Documents (a lot of them). I can open each one and I can save each one into my new PC Thunderbird program. Is there any way I can transfer all of them in one go? I can sort them into their appropriate folders later.

I have a workstation running XP (a perfectly good O/S - regardless of what Microsoft says) and on which I installed Thunderbird (v2.0.0.24)

For some reason, despite selecting to NOT have automatic updates, Thunderbird keeps automatically upgrading to the latest version (currently 24.4)

I have been using Firefox since the second public offering of v1, and been using Thunderbird since about 5 days after public release. When V3 of Thunderbird was released, i found it caused problems and could not forward or re-send emails in which someone had included emoticons (I don't use them myself, but some friends do). If your forums go back far enough, you may find my complaints I raised at the time. (the problem occurred on every computer I tried it on, so it wasn't that 'my' computer, O/s or whatever was the problem)

Unable to get anyone at Mozilla to address the actual issue, I reverted to using v2.0.0.24, and to the best of my knowledge, the issue is still a problem on new versions. Sometime since then, the whole look of Thunderbird has been changed from the nice 'clean' look of V2, to its current look, which I believe is an absolute mess. Tabs are a great idea on Firefox, but on Thunderbird they are as useful as Microsoft's idea of 'grouping' toolbar icons. It might make it look pretty, but it's bloody annoying for those of us who actually need to do work.

On at least 12 occasions, I have deleted the 'latest' version from my computer and reinstalled v2.0.0.24. Every time, I carefully ensure that automatic updates are disabled. Then, as if by magic, and usually within a week or two, I open Thunderbird to find the latest version staring back at me.

Folks, I am a great fan of Mozilla, and over the years, have encouraged probably hundreds of people to use Mozilla software over the pap offered by Microsoft. Unwanted updates on my computer ranks up there with unwanted bloatware, unwanted spyware and unwanted viruses.

Can anyone offer a solution to this problem? If I am unable to resolve it once and for all, I'll be 'firing' Thunderbird from my life.

I've installed Thunderbird for the first time and never used it before. I am unable to set up my existing personal Gmail account(s).

When I provide the name/email/password, and select IMAP, the menu hangs for a long time (minutes) saying "Checking password..." Then it finally gives up and says "Configuration could not be verified -- is the username or password wrong?"

Thunderbird version: 60.4.0 (64-bit) Linux kernel: 4.20.2-arch1-1-ARCH

- I'm 110% certain that I have the correct email/password combination. - I have verified that less secure app access is turned ON in my Gmail settings - GMail 2-step verification is turned OFF - I'm pretty sure there is no firewall on my computer getting in the way - I have tried other Gmail accounts and gotten the same failure

Any idea how to figure out what is causing the problem? I'm at a complete loss.

I'm a complete Thunderbird newbie, so maybe I'm overlooking something obvious. I successfully installed Thunderbird 45.5.1 for Linux on my PC running Puppy Linux. All folders imported and I can send and receive emails normally.

But there is nothing in my address book so apparently my contacts did not transfer. Do I need to manually import them from my Hotmail.com (Outlook.com) account?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Being involved with a number of separate businesses, I have 4 main email accounts which seamonkey has maintained separately, but having migrated to thunderbird I seem to be getting all of the emails combined together and keep picking up the wrong archive when trying to save material. How do I tell thunderbird not to mix up email accounts? I've disabled all but one from the 'global' search, but that does not seem to do anything useful.

I have setup other local email clients with no problem and I did it for my wife's Comcast email months ago- no problem. I am not your average user - "fairly computer savvy" :) - as I was Director OF IBM Education as well as Principal Engineer for IBM WebSphere.

I'm using IMAP.COMCAST.NET. I've done it many times before for other Email WEB Servers. I verified with CSA - Comcast Security Team that all the settings are correct.

Why am I not seeing all of the COMCAST EMAIL SERVER folders on the TBIRD email client? See attachment for details. FYI - a nice feature to add to your "ask your question" support utility: ability to attach WORD Docx files. I had to use snipping tool :)

Thanks for your help john

Changing Thunderbird server type without having to create new email address?

How do I change just the server type in Thunderbird from POP to IMAP for my Comcast account? I contacted Comcast and all they could recommend was creating a new account and contacting you. I tried creating a new IMAP account with the same email but after it was successfully created, Thunderbird won't let me access either account. I had to delete the new one to simply access the old one. I don't want to have to have a new email address with all the disruption that would cause.

Apparently Comcast stopped supporting POP on June 26 as that is the date of the last email I have received locally, although mail messages are visible on the server and my iPhone. Another strange thing that is happening just since that date is that many non-spam emails are now being classified as spam.

I store my emails on my computer and have an extensive email database on my computer from years of emails - 340 files over 101 subdirectories, 30 filters, etc - and do not want to have to recreate it. So how can I change just the server setting? Is there a config file that I can edit to make this change without breaking the system, or better way to do this? As of now, my email system is dead in the water.

I am running Thunderbird 45.1.1 under Windows 7.

Lots of problems migrating from Windows Live Mail. I've imported my contacts, but they are scrambled. The columns contain the wrong information. Is there any way to unscramble them?? Your "Help" often tells me to click on something that does not appear on my computer. Very frustrating to go through help procedures that lead to a blank wall.
