I-Thunderbird Isithangami Sokwesekwa

On my Windows 10 PC, I use Thunderbird (TB) for four emails (3 are Gmail). For some reason one (and only one) of my Gmail accounts starting wanting password verification in TB. But when I click the 'next' button, it doesn't take me to the password page to confirm my password, it just erases my Gmail account name in the username field.

I'm not certain why it suddenly started needing password verification (and my other two Gmail accounts still don't). I've logged into the Gmail account on Google, and my password still works (haven't changed it). I updated TB to the latest version. I deleted the password in TB (hoping it would then let me reenter it). I finally deleted the Gmail account entirely from TB. When I try to add it back, it now only allows the inbox (not sent or templates folders). And it still keeps asking me to verify the Gmail password (but won't let me). I can see new emails received, but I can't send any.

Any suggestions?

I cannot override or cancel Add Security Exception pop up which has appeared this morning. All other functionality is inaccessible because of the pop-up and I cannot even close TB with X in top corner. I can only kill TB using Task Manager on my PC

This has been the result of my hosting company (Siteground) removing cpanel from its hosting last night and replacing it with something called Site Tools.

All my emails are safe and accessible via webmail but my business uses Thunderbird on numerous email accounts on several machines in different locations (COVID work at home) and all users have lost Thunderbird access.

Siteground writes this message on its service webpage: Your hosting plan(s) has been successfully switched to our Site Tools infrastructure. Although we have automatically verified the key functionalities of the migrated websites, we kindly ask you to check your website(s), emails, FTP accounts, SSH accounts, cron jobs or any other specific functionality you may have used. 
 IMPORTANT: If you use a local email client, please check its current outgoing/incoming server name setting. If they use the server hostname (example: secureXXX55.sgcpanel.com), you need to change them to mail.yourdomain.com (where you replace yourdomain.com with the domain name you are using for the email in questions). Otherwise your email client may stop working.

I spoke to the Siteground helpdesk who say this has to be done to make TB work again.

Unfortunately the popup is preventing me from making changes or doing anything to Thunderbird. Is there a way round this to change account settings? How do I avoid having to delete TB from every machine and rebuild dozens of email accounts on each one? HELP!

i have installed Thb for a company with 5 members. I am the one who takes care of thb, updates etc. Now, users can go the settings, and make the email account passwords visible.

How can I change settings that users can NOT make the email passwords visible for them?

If this is not possible, can I make the suggestion here, to make an extra possibilty for this?

I have just upgraded from 68.12 to 78.2.2. I used Enigmail but I have migrated to the built-in openPGP. Everything runs as it should.

But it seems that my passphrase has been saved. In the old Enigmail, it used to ask for the passphrase regularly, which I found safer.

So in Thunderbird 78.2.2, is there a way to avoid the saving of the passphrase, or to define how long the passphrase should be saved (e.g. 15 min, session...)? If not, should I then use a master password to protect it? I cannot find the passphrase under saved passwords, so I am not sure where it is stored and therefore if the master password would protect the passphrase.

I use gmail and Thunderbird. Everything has worked for several years. A few days ago I changed my Gmail password.

I am able to access my mail via gmail's web interface using this new password. When I start up Thunderbird, it opens a window asking me to sign into my Google account. The screen has a field for my email address which is pre-populated with my correct email address. It also has a "Next" button. Upon clicking the button, I expected to be taken to a screen which asks for my password. Instead, my email address is deleted from the field and replaced with "Email or phone."

OK, I re-enter my email address and click "Next" again. The same thing happens. I try my phone number and get the message "Couldn't find you Google Account. Try entering your email address instead". Note - the phone number is correct and linked to my Google account. I used it to change my Google password which of course led to this problem.

Also, after experiencing this I tried notifying Thunderbird of my new password via Options > Privacy and Security > Saved Passwords... In this screen I changed both incoming and outgoing passwords to my new Gmail password and retried. Same exact experience. Next I went back to this screen and deleted both passwords and retried. Same exact experience.

This error just suddenly appeared preventing me from sending email to anyone including myself: Receiving emails OK.

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.1 <ols1439@ca.inter.net>: Recipient address rejected: Access denied. Please ensure that you are using the correct identity to send and that the used authentication method is correct. Verify that you are allowed to send via this SMTP server with your current credentials from your current network.

My ISP provider sugested this fix which did not work :

1-From the menu at the top right, go to Options. 2-Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on Config Editor. 3-Skip past the warning. 4-Scroll down until you find security.tls.version.min (or paste security.tls.version.min to upper frame) Double click on it, and set the value to 1 (Note Current value is 3) 5-Mozilla disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in the latest versions of Firefox and Thunderbird. Thunderbird 73b and above. 6-This causes issues with anyone connecting via SSL/TLS/StartTLS to services uses 1.1.

I have no problem sending emails from my Ipad. Would appreciate any help resolving this. Thanks

Thunderbird 68.12 I have repeatedly marked one sender as not-junk and it has moved it successfully to the inbox. But when the next email comes in, it still goes in the junk mail. This is despite writing a message filter to put it back in inbox from the junk filter. I have looked at the instructions on spam filtering works, but it still happens. How can I stop this happening as I am missing meetings from this sender?

I can't figure out how to disable attaching the PGP key by default. People not used to PGP encryption (sadly very many) get confused by this ".asc attachment which they can't open".

How do I set it up so the public key is NOT attached by default (i.e. so I don't have to uncheck this option in the Security menu)?

I have been using Thunderbird successfully for many years and use the latest version on my desktop pc (Win 10, 64 bit) for various gmail en other email accounts. However, when I changed my password in Gmail, I couldn't implement this in Thunderbird and I sadly decided to delete this account, including smtp and passwords for this account and tried to set it up again. This fails I get a message that username, password or settings are wrong. Tried several times, without success. However I decided to try it out on my laptop after downloading Thunderbird and I was able to set the accounts up without any problem, went very easy, so there seems not to be an issue on the data I tried to use. So I am stuck, could it be that somewhere old imaps are blocking it, if so what could I do, if not what else is the solution? If possible like to avoid deleting Thunderbird, since I have made a lot of local files which I do not want to loose or have to recover apart from the other working email accounts. The problem solving page shows different account numbers: 2, 8, 10 and 14

Hello - I received an email regarding my G Suite account that says starting Feb 15, 2021, G Suite accounts will only allow access to apps using OAuth. Password-based access will no longer be supported.

It goes on to say: If you are using Thunderbird or another email client, re-add your Google Account and configure it to use IMAP with Oauth.

It says if I do not take the above action, when LSA access is discontinued after Feb 15, 2021, I'll begin receiving an error message that my username-password combo is incorrect.

I have personal and business G-mail accounts, both of which I access through Thunderbird. I'm not a techie -- this was all set up for me by someone else -- and I'm unsure about how to "re-add/reconfigure my Google account," and when to implement this -- or is it possible that Thunderbird has already made changes at that end to accommodate this new Oauth requirement?

I'd be eternally grateful for any specific how-to steps you can provide to ensure uninterrupted email service.

Suddenly, I am unable to receive or send emails using Thunderbird with Yahoo small business. I have been using 78.4.2 with Catalina 10.15.7 on my MacBook Pro since last November without problems. Then, two days ago after functioning normally for hours, my outgoing attempts received a dropdown error message “unable to connect with SMTP server”. Same type of error message when I tried to get messages “unable to connect with POP server”. I am still able to receive and send email on my iPhone, but not on the laptop which makes me suspect that it is something on the laptop rather than on the Yahoo small business side. I was also able to send successfully from the same account on a second machine. There is no firewall or VPN involved. I double-checked the pop and smtp configuration that Yahoo requires and have continued with the same result. I then uninstalled Thunderbird and did a fresh download and install of TB 78.7.1, and created a new profile. Same result. I am still able to use webmail, so all is not lost, but feel like I’ve exhausted the possible fixes I can think of, and am no closer to a solution.

We are looking for a mail client that talks directly with our mail servers. No man in the middle, to use a cybersecurity phrase.

This includes the initial setup of the mail client, as well. We do not want any data be taken by a third party unless we approve it.

im Posteingang von Thunderbird finde ich 2 Ordner (Junk und Spam). Was ist der Unterschied zwischen den beiden Ordnern?

In Einstellung -> Datenschutz & Sicherheit wird z.B. nur über den Junk Ordner geschrieben, der Spam Ordner wird überhaupt nicht erwähnt. In beiden Ordnern befinden sich aber mails, die mit dem Junk-Kennzeichen versehen sind. Da ich keine unnötigen Ordner verwalten möchte, würde ich gern auf einen verzichten, falls er unnötig ist. Kann ich den Spam Ordner komplett löschen? Oder müssen vor dem Löschen die mails in den Junk Ordner verschoben werden? Wäre für jede Hilfe dankbar.

Where I can disable / remove user or randomize useragent when send out email using thunderbird? I tried add general.useragent.override with empty/null value, but it doesn't work.

Hi. I updated gmail security settings and now TB is blocked from receiving emails from gmail because it is not a supported app. Please can I have advice on how to get TB allowed on google? Sorry but abit confused. Help much appreciated.

I've had a problem today which has prevented me from sending messages on my talktalk.net account. The following appears in a message box "Sending of the message failed. Peer's Certificate issuer is not recognised. The configuration related to smtp.talktalk.net must be corrected" On pressing OK, another box pops up titled "add security exception" - image attached (587 is the default port) On pressing "Get certificate", the message "No information Available, unable to obtain identification status for this site" appears.

Any ideas? Thunderbird updated to the most recent release 78.7.0 on 27th Jan, and I sent a couple of emails successfully on 28th Jan

Recently, when opening Thunderbird, I got the following error message:

"The IMAP server (server name) does not seem to support encrypted passwords. If you just set up the account, please try changing to 'Password, transmitted insecurely' as the 'Authentication method' in the 'Account Settings | Server settings'. If it used to work and now suddenly fails, this is a common scenario how someone could steal your password."

Based on an answer to a similar post in another forum, I changed the Connection security from "None" to "SSL/TLS" and the Authentication method from "Encrypted password" to "Password". Everything seems to work now, but I didn't change the port, as prompted in the post.

I'm not familiar with how encryption works, so my first question is this:

• Does the choice of port have any meaning to ensure that my email traffic, or at least the password, is encrypted?

Also, since it used to work before, I'm worried that someone is trying to steal my password. However, I can't understand from the error message how this would be an attempt to steal my password.

• Can someone explain what kind of attack would render the error message above, to give me an understanding of how to protect myself? I.e. have I done something wrong, what weaknesses would have been exploited in this case etc.

Hi, I've been looking for the way to sign digitally my emails using my personal certificate (given to me by the government), but unfortunately I didn't found it. Several tutorials indicate that the way to do this is configuring the certificate in Account settings -> Security, but for me there is no such option. The last group of settings for each account I have in my Thunderbird is "Return Receipts". Maybe I'm missing something?

I have used Firefox and Thunderbird for several years but now I am unable to use Yahoo because of ?Thunderbird being unsecure? So anyway I can't get signed in anymore. I have read everything I can find on the web sites about how to log in but as I read and follow directions I always get to a critical spot where a function/icon/option/ is not available to me. So I'm dead in the water again. I am using Firefox version 83 and Thunderbird version 78, the latest downloads and Windows 10. I guess I'm not very smart on the computer but my question is 'can anybody give me precise instructions how to comply with the Yahoo security snafu? Right now I am using Yahoo until I can find out something about Thunderbird and I hate Yahoo. Secondly is Mozilla fixing the Thunderbird program so it will seamlessly log in?

I have loved and used Thunderbird for years after finally replacing good old Eudora. I recently had to change my Yahoo password for security reasons. I followed all the Thunderbird instructions on how to update my password, from options, to security, to show password, to delete password, reboot and entering my new password when prompted, and then save to password manager. But the new password is rejected when trying to download mail. Nothing else has changed. I've spent many, many hours with no success. The new, correct Yahoo password is now in Thunderbird. It is a long story, but for several reasons, I still use and must use Version 52.9.1, Mozilla 5.0. Therefore, some of the suggestions I've found online do not work with my older version. I can read my emails on Yahoo, but need to download them to Thunderbird for historical and management purposes. Any help much appreciated!
