Hi, trying to get Thunderbird to work with Gmail two-factor authentication in anticipation of May 20, 2022 deadline, when I will have to abandon 3 Gmail accounts if I can't use Thunderbird POP to get my mail.

I learned to set Thunderbird to accept cookies, and that let me get my text message on the phone and put in the Google account verification number. Then I get a Google screen asking for permission to let T-bird access my Gmail account, I say "Accept" and the pop-up screen disappears and nothing happens. If I hit the "Continue" button again, it puts me right back into the verify loop, until Google thinks I am a robot and stops letting me try for a while.

I tried an app password in the Google account, and when I enter that in T-bird, the Google screen just prompts for the actual password for the account.

I am running Win7, with T-bird 91.6.1 (64-bit) latest release. I am setting up a POP account.

Could it be that I am logged into the same Google account on the same laptop, so I can manage my YouTube channels?

At this point I figure to just make new Gmail accounts with 2FA and play with them and T-bird. If I can't get this working by May 20, 2022, then I will just delete the three accounts, and use my personal www domain email. Gmail has great spam control, but maybe I will just have to change my email addresses every 15 days and then the pigs won't get a chance to spam me.

I have received notices from Google for all of my Gmail accounts that I have on Thunderbird that beginning in May 2022, an id and password will no longer be supported for "certain" apps. I am not sure if this includes Thunderbird - both for email and for calendar? Does it include Thunderbird and what must be done on Thunderbird to continue receiving email and calendar updates?

To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google

Google has announced that after May 30, 2022 third-party apps that log into google with account name and password (which I assume includes Thunderbird) will no longer be able to do so, as they will enable 2-step verification. I currently and for years have used Thunderbird to pick up my mail from 5 accounts, 3 of which are gmail accounts. Will I be able to continue using Thunderbird after May 30, 2022? I have been unsuccessful getting any helpful information from google itself. They don't have a list of "trusted" third party apps that will continue to work with them. Anything people know about this will be helpful to me and appreciated. Thanks.

I upgraded to macOS 12.2.1 recently, and it didn't go so well. Now that things are mostly settled, I've encountered a Thunderbird problem. My Address Book is mostly, but not fully intact. Several of my Lists still show up but are now empty; all of the addresses in the lists have disappeared. That's just an annoyance though. The real problem is that I'm now unable to create new lists. When I click to create a new list, I get the usual window in which the list name and associated addresses are to be entered. It all seems to function fine (and even autocompletes known addresses as I add them), and when I click OK I do get a new list with the name I entered, but none of the addresses are saved. The list is empty.

I suspect I corrupted something in the Thunderbird account file structure when I was reinstalling the OS, but am not sure. Has anyone seen this behavior and identified a solution?

Gmail / OAuth2 login won't accept password

I have a number of Gmail accounts which I manage using Thunderbird (currently version 91.6.1). All use a POP3 Mail Server and (currently) "SSL/TLS" and "Normal password"… (funda kabanzi)

I have a number of Gmail accounts which I manage using Thunderbird (currently version 91.6.1). All use a POP3 Mail Server and (currently) "SSL/TLS" and "Normal password" as the Security Settings.

A couple of days ago I received a message from Google saying that, from 30th May this year, Gmail was requiring two-level authentication and suggesting that I change to OAuth2 - so I've been testing this option in advance of the cut-off date.

With "Normal password" changed to "OAuth2" but no other changes I find that when I try to receive mail a Google account login screen is displayed with the appropriate Gmail account name loaded - so far, so good you might say; I was expecting that. However, when I press Next on this screen instead of being asked for my Gmail password, which I was anticipating, all that happens is that the same screen is redisplayed with the account name removed.

It looks as if I can't sign in to my Google account, as I assume is required for OAuth2; and eventually I get a "POP3 timed-out" message.

Any thoughts / suggestions ? Note I'm not an IT expert - so please phrase any replies accordingly.

Many thanks

I have spent the last two days trying to re-establish receiving/sending emails on my Apple MacBook Pro using Thunderbird without success. This problem developed suddenly about 3 or 4 days ago and only affects the MacBook, not any other device (I have an iMac and two iPads). I have gone through the instructions in Thunderbird's support pages and those in Mozilla with no success.

How do I fix this please? Would the easiest way be to simply delete the account xxxxxxx.gmail.com from Thunderbird on my MacBook and re-instate it by adding it back in?

All the setting for IMAP and SMTP are correct and the username/password is identical on all my devices.

I want to have the Enabled Filters that I have created in Message Filters all use a different folder to filter on. I'm closing an email account that I have about 200 messages being filtered and want to direct all these filters to a new account/folder. Can I do that without having to move them individually to the new folder I want to filter to?

Thanks, Dwight

I am a new Thunderbird user so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I have looked at your site to work out how to attach a file to an outgoing email. How then do I obtain the Attach tab or is there some other way that I should follow to attach the file? Regards Bob

I have many different email accounts and want them all to be shown globally (i.e. one single "Inbox" folder and "Sent" folder). I do NOT want the folders separated into the email accounts. I don't want to see the names of the accounts in the left pane, just one single folder. I've used this for years with previous versions of TB and it's worked perfectly. However, if I do a clean install of TB (v91.6.2) on a new PC and install two POP3 test accounts the test accounts are shown separately in the left pane and not globally. In Account Settings -> Copies & Folders I have changed ALL the folders for both accounts to "Local Folders. After doing this I restart TB, but the accounts are still shown individually with their own inbox, sent etc. folders. I have not find any new articles on how to do this with TB 91.

So, to be clear, I want a top folder "Local Folders" and under this there is the "Inbox" folder and the "Sent" folder. All email messages from all accounts go to the "Inbox" or "Sent" folder, and there are no separate folders for the different accounts.

What am I missing?

I am having a great deal of problems with emails. I use Bt Internet and I have been for many years on Thunderbird everything has worked very well and until this Sunday (06/03/2022) it all died. Emails come in but I can not send anything. I reset the password at the Bt.mail and reset it on Thunderbird. Even worse. I try to reset the email and it keeps say that the outgoing or incoming it says either "Login to server mail.btinternet.com with username myname@btinternet.com failed." or "Incoming server already exists." So everything in the questions deals with Gmail. With this I do not have any problems. This Bt email address I have been using for many years so why now please? Thank you. Mike Update I can not seems to remove this question. However I have fixed the issue. It was my fault as I had added the same folder with the same same and everything so it 3 folders all the same and that why it thought I was sending something from the same address. Sorted. Many thanks
