created new accounts but sub-folders different, missing, new, & new icons(?)

For many years I have had 2 Accounts in Tbird. They are POP. I just created two new accounts, and am confused by some differences in appearance. These are IMAP. Do IMAP accounts populate the sub-folders based on a structure present in the IMAP provider?

1) there is a new sub folder "All Mail"

2) No Junk folder. There is a Spam folder. Did some idiot change the name in an update to Tbird, just to fark with long time users? If so they did a poor job, since the Account Settings still has a tab for "JUNK Settings" and the toggle asks where to move the JUNK. Creating synonyms is bad practice, because nobody knows if they are in fact synonyms. One would presume they are not.

3) In the index listing of accounts, each account has an icon to its left -- concentric circles with a padlock. And I have not noticed that icon before, I'm wondering if my old accounts suddenly have a different icon (which strangely matches the new accounts' icons). The sub-folders all have unique icons for each type (Inbox, Sent, etc)

In choosing where to place sent mail, there are two toggle choices to Place A Copy In: 1) "Sent" folder on { [circle&lock icon] ACCOUNT_NAME 2) "Other { [SentFolderIcon] Sent on ACCOUNT_NAME I don't grasp the difference. Would 1) keep the messages on the remote IMAP system? I notice that my old POP accounts are using option 1) & mail is kept locally.

3) The new accounts have "greyed out" italicized subfolders "Folders" and "Labels." Are these associated with being IMAP, or did some Tbird update add them? What are they for?

After using Thunderbird for many years with a couple of email accounts, over the last few days I have been trying to add a new account.

Using the Auto Config option, the account appears to be set up OK, and I have been able to send a test email to another email address from the newly added account which is received OK, but when I close Thunderbird and reopen it, the newly added account has completely disappeared. I have tried setting up the new account manually, but with the same result.

I would add that I have added the new email in other clients without any problems.

I have not included any screenshots, because I don't think they would help. I do have them if it would help, but the first one shows that the newly added account is present, and the second screenshot (after restarting) Thunderbird shows that it isn't.

Any suggestions please.

I've tried the successful (for the other questioners) solutions offered in the articles that came up, but they didn't work. The one suggestion I couldn't try because the option didn't come up, was to press the "stop" button to keep TB from searching for the provider, then enter all the info manually BEFORE choosing the "Manual config" option. I couldn't do that because no "stop" button ever appeared.

In any case, I did try entering everything manually a number of times (including the IMAP and SMTP info), trying each and all of the "Authentication" options in that dropdown menu. But TB still insists that either my username (new email address) or password are invalid. I've done this many times now, carefully, and... same result no matter what, even after shutting TB down and starting fresh. By the way, TB does enter all of the IMAP and SMTP info correctly by itself, exactly as protonmail.com lays it out.

I don't want to start fresh by deleting my current Roadrunner account (which shows a POP server, if that makes any difference) and replacing it with the protonmail account, because then I'll lose all my folders and everything. I'd like to delete RR down the road, though.

Oh, and by the way I've followed Protonmail's instructions on how to set up Thunderbird.

Any ideas on this? I'm stymied. Thanks.

We use Thunderbird to send Invoices and other forms from QuickBooks. This works fine with versions 60.9.0 or 60.9.1. However the 68 series updates are NOT compatible with QuickBooks.

In QuickBooks, the email client is set under "Edit" "Preferences" and then "Send Forms". There should be a choice of Web Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird or QuickBooks E-mail. This works fine with the 60 series Thunderbird. But with the 68 series, QuickBooks cannot find Thunderbird and does not list it as an option.

I assume this is the case with all 68 versions of Thunderbird, although I have only tried with 68.1.1 and 68.4.1 (both failed). The latter happened when Thunderbird automatically updated to ver 68.4.1 and we suddenly lost compatibility.

Is there a plan to make the newer Thunderbird versions compatible with QuickBooks?

Until then, I'm hoping I can prevent Thunderbird from automatically updating. It is a pain when it happens because it's on a hosted server and we have to get a tech to uninstall Thunderbird and reinstall the older version - we don't have admin rights to do it ourselves.

Searching the web, there are others frustrated with Thunderbird suddenly losing compatibility with QuickBooks, although I don't know if they realize it is dependent upon the version of Thunderbird.

I followed all steps to copy Thunderbird profiles successfully to a new Thunderbird downloaded on a new computer. All email accounts, old settings, and folders (very large, 16.9g) are all in the left pane after I launched the new Thunderbird.

However, many folders in Chinese characters are duplicate, and do not show anything inside the folders. I have transferred the profiles to a new computer many times in the past 10 years, and I have been always successful without any problem using the same method to transfer from one computer Thunderbird to a new computer Thunderbird. But, this is the first time I encounter this problem - duplicate folders than contain nothing inside. I first downloaded the latest version of Thunderbird (68.10). It happened. Then, I thought I should try an older version (60), which is my old computer using Thunderbird 6.0. But it has the same duplicate folders that contains nothing or do not show up anything inside.

I searched in the support articles and discussions on Thunderbird. I tried to delete all MSF files in the folders, which took a long time to do, and restarted the Thunderbird. But, it still does not work. I tried to delete the duplicate folders, in many ways, but it did not allow me to delete. When I click on any folder in Chinese characters, it just has no response, blank in the folders, and it shows no files previously saved. But, if I click on the folders in English, they are working, and all messages saved show up.

I need all those folders which I saved for over 20 years on my teaching and research position. I have been perplexed and frustrated as I have tried to remove and reinstall Thunderbird and transfer data over 10 times in the past few days, spent days by days on this task without finding a solution. I think the only way now is to find an expert who knows the Thunderbird well to help me. I am even willing and happy to pay the service and work provided by any Thunderbird expert, so I can resolve the problem to get these folders work. All folders and sub-folders inside contain a lot of messages.

The strange thing that has puzzled me is that all folders and sub-folders in English work fine, and has messages, but those folders and sub-folders in Chinese language are all duplicate and contain no message inside. Please see the pictures attached for your reference. Can anyone kindly help me? Please do email me and alert me when someone would kindly offer help, and email me: sguo@sfsu.edu Thanks very much!

Hello guys, I'm a thunderbird fanatic and use it even at work managing 10+ accounts. Up to Thunderbird 68, all was super fine:

The massive profile with 60+ folder was well organized with a handful of incredible add-ons to: - color folders - customize color account background - manage folder sorting The workflow was smooth and very productive: the folder colored to my like, the new email received were visible at a glance in the related folder by simply browsing and detecting the different accent in the folder name, and so on.

I always loved updates and kept the auto update on... until yesterday when my 68 has been migrated automatically to 78 !

No one of the necessary add-ons works anymore! No one of those fantastic the developer is anymore interested in upgrading them (changes are too frequent, and need to invest too much time to upgrade them) The interface is to uniform, I cannot customize colors in the same efficient way.... If I want the same 60+ nested folder sorting, I need to rename all of them... When a folder receives a new email the accent color (sort of bold blue) is nearly same as that of a folder with unread email (bold black)... Oh my god, what a mess !

Since no add-ons are available to re arrange the profile like it was with Thunderbird 68, my only option is to roll-back to 68... and stay there until the necessary add-on will get back to 78 (if any).

Do you know how I can convert back my profile just upgraded to 78 back to 68 ???

Please Please Please, help me ! Pietro

For decades have been using Eudora with PORT 110 SERVER incoming.verizon.net

Verizon wants me to migrate to PORT 995 SERVER pop.verizon.net

But it won't work for either Eudora or TB 24.5.0 for Macintosh Eudora "fails authentication." TB just keeps "connecting" until it times out

This seems to be a well know problem with Verizon PORT 995 since circa 2009, per Google searching I've done.

BTW how do I activate verbose Task Progress and Error Messages for TB ?

Trying to delete my Saved Password in TB to make sure it was entered correctly, but cannot find out how. THE ANSWER FROM VARIOUS Q/A ON THIS SITE QUOTED BELOW IS WRONG:

THERE IS NO "Tools" choice and using those keys does NOTHING on a Macintosh. Version of TB is 24.5.0

ALSO there are two different "Tools" menus. They have different sub-options. One is the drop-down on the upper tool bar. The other is hidden in that mysterious symbol on the right, having 3 parallel horizontal lines.

>To see what you have saved in Thunderbird go to Tools-Options-Security->Passwords-Saved Passwords > >No Menu Bar with Tools? Press the alt key or F10 to make it appear.

I have used Thunderbird for many years. My church has a domain on Google, and my church-related email goes through Gmail. This has worked fine for years; I use IMAP and see the Gmail labels as folders in Thunderbird. Recently I had to change my password in Google, and had a terrible time getting re-synchronized to Gmail... I finally got Thunderbird connected properly, but I can only see the Gmail Inbox, not any of my folders. If I attempt to synchronize with Gmail labels Thunderbird only sees Trash. I have T-bird 68.6.0 on MacOS 10.13.6. Please help!

2 problems:

1) Since TB updated itself, I've lost most of my email. Nothing displays in the "message body". Some folders just say there's no mail in them. I've tried repairing the folders and deleting the .msf files. Nothing has helped. I really need those emails; they contain many receipts, bills etc that I need to keep. I have backups but before I knew there was a problem, I deleted the older backups to create space for new ones. So I don't have a "good" backup. Any help on how to retrieve my email will be gratefully accepted.

2) I've reverted now to v 5.91, and set TB to ask before updating. But it's displaying the message: "Restart TB to update". So now I can't close TB because it will update again. Any suggestions how I prevent this?

i have FOUR tbird profiles that i would like to consolidate in THUNDERBIRD on the MAC and use as ARCHIVED email on the mac. i don't think i will import it all into MAC MAIL - which i use for current mail - since i think this database will be too large.

can i please ask if i should use ImportExport Tools and then the IMPORT MBOX or IMPORT PROFILE command for this?

but also which of the “import way” selections i should make?

i think dumping it all into one single profile would be fine for me at this point.

any ideas or experience with this tool?

THANKS

No Local Folders shown, no address books. After thrashing about, I set my Local Folders to E:\Data\NAS Echo\Thunderbird\4lmjatm5.default\Mail\Local Folders, whereas it used to be E:\Data\NAS Echo\Thunderbird\4lmjatm5.default\Mail\secure.emailsrvr.com Server settings is: E:\Data\NAS Echo\Thunderbird\4lmjatm5.default\Mail\secure.emailsrvr.com, as before

I am unable to set these both to E:\Data\NAS Echo\Thunderbird\4lmjatm5.default\Mail\secure.emailsrvr.com - the dialog box says the other is using it. Have tried multiple times trying each one first.

Still no address books, though I have them backed up & can reload them. All 10k addresses.

Can I get BOTH server & Local Folders looking at the same profile again?

Why does this keep getting screwed up?

Help! I know I am old & not too swift any more, but it shouldn't be this difficult.
