Hello, My Thunderbird 32bit installation upon Microsoft 10 64bit installation just upgraded itself to 7.2.2 and produced a severe performance problem after initial startup. The response to attempts to navigate through the folders is very slow. The Microsoft Task Manager shows that Thunderbird is constantly busy 15-20% Cpu usage and flashes of 'Not responding' although the program has nothing to download.

There 4 accounts configured (3 imap and one pop3) and there are lots of folders with stored emails. There is one Lightening calendar configured.

The performance issue continues for about 10 minutes and then disappears so the system becomes as responsive as it was before the upgrade i.e. instantaneous.

I cannot tell you what release I was on before the upgrade. Any suggestions Patrick

I have always had challenges getting the recommended CPANEL server settings to work in Thunderbird. However, I managed to have them working fine until this week, after we had an issue with malware on our site, which was removed. We have all also had to completely reset our PCs due to this virus.

Now, I had to use truly bizarre settings (compared to the recommendations) in order to get Thunderbird to work with my emails.

However, some of my team cannot get their OUTGOING mail to work at all, no matter what setting we have tried. We have exhausted our creativity, research, and troubleshooting with Godaddy.

Attached are: 1 the settings recommended in Godaddy CPANEL, 2 the incoming and outgoing settings I got to work for me.

Any thoughts?

How can I resize the columns to make stars and attachment icons visible? I don't know what's happened and to say the truth I didn't notice when it started to look like this. I'm using Thunderbird 68.12.0 with no extensions. I tried resetting the columns, restarting in safe mode and resetting the controls - nothing helps.

P.S. I've figured out. I'm using chrome CSS like this to make the header bar of another color otherwise it is white and I always click the header by mistake making the wrong sort order:

treecol, .treecol-image { -moz-appearance: none !important; background-color: peachpuff !important; }

What should I edit here to make the columns great again? :)

I discovered that E-mail suddenly from my sister started to go directly to the junk file. I've moved them to the inbox several times, but each time within a few minutes the same E-mails disappear from inbox and go back to junk file. Once in the junk file they become marked as "not read" even though they were read. This only started in early Oct and I haven't notice it occurring with E-mail from anyone else...yet. I fear this will happen with any E-mail she sends and could start happening with E-mail from other people. Why is this happening and how can I make it stop? Can someone please help me? Thank you.

When I opens Thunderbird, I sometimes have a problem with the sending/receiving screen (once a few days). The problem is that the upper part of the screen disappear. I can not perform some of the operation on the screen because some of the icons on the upper part of the screen disappears. When the above problem occurs, I have the same problem with the explore screen of Windows 10 (the upper part of the explore screen disappears, which also causes a problem to me).

I am not sure this problem is a matter of Thunderbird or Windows 10. 

This problem has occurred for around two weeks. I can not find any specific reason for the problem. To solve the problem, I reinstalled the latest Thunderbird (ver. 78.3.2 (32 bit)), but the problem still exists. The screen recovers after PC is shut down and started again, but the problem occurs again after a while. I can not find when the problem occurs. It seems to me that the problem occurs suddenly. Please give me a suggestion for the solution. PS I can further send the screen with the problem as a attached document to someone who sends me a helping e-mail (for easy understanding what the problem is). Naoki Tsukamura

Problem: Occasionally I need to refer to emails from a few weeks ago, or a few years ago, and once in a while I can't find the email I'm looking for. These are emails I know to exist (from a print-out, or from quoted material in another email), but they no longer appear in my Inbox or any of my local boxes.

I do not have whole months or years of missing emails, just random emails here and there that I can no longer find. They're not in Trash, not Archived -- just not there any more.

Any idea what might be happening here?

Using Thunderbird for Mac, 68.12.0, on a 2020 iMac running Catalina 10.15.6, as well as a 2018 MacBook (and also using Apple Mail on an iPhone).

Hi I have encountered a custom TBird setup I've never seen before. There is a POP account and some Local Folder email folders to back up. The previous technician relocated the POP account message storage directory to AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Mail\mail.hamilton.com and relocated the Local Folders message storage directory to Documents\Thunderbird. I obviously need to back up those directories. Is the only additional thing I need to back up the active profile directory? Does that cover everything? Thanks for the help! Josh

If I down load 78.3.2 how do I get all of my emails, folders and address book on this version from my existing version?

I have tried down loading it but the set-up is terrible and convoluted. I have tried keeping my profile and inserting that, but compared to earlier versions of Thundebird the set up is completely unintuitive and what ever you click on does nothing.

In years gone by, you simply removed the new profile and inserted the old one in Finder>Go>Library>Thunderbird> Profile and everything was there. Now it's a mess.

I have all the thunderbird data backed up. But how can I get it back into thunderbird so that it's working? Can anyone help me out with that, please?

I'm not sure but I think I had POP previously and not IMAP but I'm not sure. HOW can I find that out?

When I go into thunderbird's 'troubleshooting information' page and scroll down to the 'Mail and News Accounts' section it lists two accounts:

'account1' named '(none) 'Local Folders' using a 'Normal password' 'account3' named '(imap) imap.mail.yahoo.com:993' using 'Oauth2' authentication

Obviously the second account is the one that got activated after the yahoo authentication. It's the default account. But the first one is probably what I had prior.

I looked at the folders on my computer. There is a pop.mail.yahoo.com folder which seems to contain the missing folder/data right up to the date when I did the yahoo authentication that made it all disappear in thunderbird.

Does anyone know what I need to do next? How exactly, step by step (because I don't want to screw up more stuff), do I get that data back into my thunderbird account?

Hi - Bonjour Since the installation of V78.xx, the message filters do not work correctly. Some work, but an email box that has 137 filters no longer responds correctly since switching to V78. Periodically some of these filters open a dialog box indicating that the message has not been filtered. It's three or four messages every time I open Thunderbird. If I go into the incoming folder and run each filter one by one on the left messages, they will be filtered correctly. These filters worked perfectly before the version change ... Is the number of filters limited?

Certains fonctionnent mais une boîte de courriel qui possède 137 filtres ne réponds plus correctement depuis le passage en V78. Régulièrement certains de ces filtres ouvrent une boîte de dialogue indiquant que le message n'a pas été filtré. Il s'agit de trois ou quatre message à chaque fois que j'ouvre Thunderbird. Cannot send email with smtp.office365.com

I was connected to O365 with my work email but cannot send any message. IMAP works just fine, all folders synced regularly, but sending not work for some unknown reason.… (funda kabanzi)

I was connected to O365 with my work email but cannot send any message. IMAP works just fine, all folders synced regularly, but sending not work for some unknown reason.

SMTP setting is as follow: smtp.office365.com port 587 STARTTLS OAuth (this is correct setting, all others shows errors, including outlook.partner.cn & smtp.office365.cn, which is completely normal since I'm not in China).

The first thing that jump out is that my password is not OK, which is not correct. Password is OK. Click on "Retry" or "Enter new password" do nothing, just return the same pop up. If "Cancel", then receiving message with "unknown error 80004005" and all other blablabla about unknown reasons, with instruction to check my SMTP settings.

I've tried all variations available, but nothing works. Sometimes, at some moment after click on Cancel, it said "Message sent" and I can see it in my Sent Items folder, but it's fake because I never receive that test message to my personal Gmail address.

I have already tried all suggestions I could find (deleting passwords, resetting all, restarting, deleting and adding account again, changes in Config editor related to security.tls), but nothing worked for me.

My OS: Win 10 Pro, build 2004, TB version 78.3.2

Any advise is very welcome. Thank you all in advance.

Hi all I had in the options of Thunderbird 68 a directory server entry created, pointing towards our Active directory. I used the SLL Global Catalog LDAP port TCP 3269. Everything worked fine until Thunderbird got automatically updated to version 78 a few weeks ago. Now I can only use the non-SSL port 3268, that works without further modifications but SSL on TCP 3269 does not. There is no error displayed but also never any result from LDAP when inserting recipients. On another PC, where TB 68 is still installed, the SSL query still works. Please give help, how it is possible to switch back to more secure SSL for the directory query.

I need Thunderbird to never even offer updates. My 97-year old mother can't respond appropriately to the unsolicited update prompts. I will manually check and install updates.

I am running 78.3.1 (32-bit) on Windows 10.

I was using the following process but it quit working on a recent update:

1) On the top menu, click on Tools->Options to enter the Options window.

2) Then click on Advanced and select the General tab.

3) Click on the Config Editor… button and the scary window saying “This might void you warranty !” should appear again. Just click on “I’ll be careful I promise!” to carry on.

4) Then in the Filter filed type app.update.enabled. It should be set to true, double-click on the line to set it to false.
