I've been running Tbird on Windows for many years. About 2 weeks ago something changed, either in Tbird or at Microsoft, which stops me from sending to the Office 365 SMTP server. I can send and receive using Outlook on the Office website, but I can't send locally from Tbird. Error message screenshot herewith. I have tried every possible permutation of server settings, which currently are:

Server name: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Security: START/TLS Authentication: OAuth2

MS support says these are correct, and they are at wits' end to understand what is going on. They asked me to ask Tbird support, so I am.

I should add that at about the same time I started getting SMTP rejections in Gmail on my Android phone, and miraculously that was corrected yesterday, without any action from me. There is something odd going on at Microsoft - does anyone know what it is? My other accounts on Tbird work fine of course.

This has only occurred with the newest release. I have uninstalled and reinstalled NUMEROUS times.

What is happening is that with ANY gmail account (does not occur with any other email accts, so it's not an issue of I'm doing something wrong), when I go to check the password and it is supposed to log into Gmail to ALLOW THUNDERBIRD blah blah blah, the local host window is black and never does anything.

I have checked the NUMEROUS other people who have the same issue, and seen a long list of supposed solutions, so to help anyone who attempts to help, please know:

Yes, I've deleted my profile in app data and started over Yes, I have removed the duplicate account Yes, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Yes, I have also deleted all instances of Thunderbird Yes, I have tried to add a 1 to combat the duplicate account Yes, I have tried to open the allow local link on a browser Yes, I have it as OAUTH2 Yes, I have retested and manually configured Yes, I've installed an older version of Thunderbird (still doing it) Yes, I've tried all other gmail accounts

It's obvious to me that this is a major issue that a ton of people are experiencing, but no one has seemed to truly find a fix.

But please, if ANYONE can come up with something that works, help. Because I work from home w/numerous companies and I need Thunderbird to check all those emails regularly!!

Sometime in the recent past (not sure exactly when), my SUBJECT column disappeared from the Unified View. See attached picture. View > Folders > Unified

Each individual email account correctly shows the Subject column, only the Unified view is missing the Subject column.

Clicking on the "Select Columns to Display" on the far right of the window and trying the "Apply columns to.." does not work because it does not provide an option to apply the columns to the UNIFIED view.

I tried reinstalling Thurnderbird but that did not fix the problem.

Any ideas how to fix this bug/program corruption?

When downloading messages if there is a trojan in an email Bitdefender quarantines my entire inbox and subsequent emails in the same download have no inbox to write to so give an error. There is a work around but it is a pain. I have to do the following.

1 Log in to webmail 2 Delete suspect emails manually 3 Delete the popstate.dat file 4 Rerun the download.

This is a pain and I run the risk of losing older emails. I have switched off antispam in Bitdefender to no avail. Running 64 bit Windows 11 with the latest versions of Thunderbird and Bitdefender.

Hope someone can help.

Suddenly I cannot send emails using Thunderbird. I have tried changing my Outgoing Server smtp.xs4all.nl in various ways, but now I am completely confused. It's possible too that incoming messages are not arriving too, since nothing has arrived today. An additional complication is that I am now in France instead of Holland, but in the past that was never a problem.

Furthermore, I have a VPN called SurfShark, which I pay for but have not found useful for as far as I know. Generally, I set it to Paris, but disconnecting it doesn't seem to make any difference. I have Bitdefender virus but I cannot find how to temporarily disable it. The same applies to firewalls. This is driving me mad.

The 'Send Message Error' is - Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.xs4all.nl. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settiongs | Outgoing server (SMTP)'.

I have tried to modify the the SMTP server settings in various and I am not sure now whether anything is correct. I also reinstalled the latest version of Thunderbird, but that didn't change anything. The SMTP Server settings are presently as follows:

Description: Vic **** Server Name: smtp.xs4all.nl Port: 465 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal password User Name: v**.@xs4all.nl

I don't know if it's really necessary to disguise my Description and User Name with asterisks: let me know. The 'Email me' square below does not respond (visibly) when ticked in FireFox.

How do I get out of this mess please?

Hi

Any suggestions about why the display might be glitching in Thunderbird... attached image as an example. Missing letters and things that sometimes reappear when you mouse over them. Occasionally get neon green lines too. Something to do with my computer's graphics settings? Doesn't happen all the time.

I have the latest version of Thunderbird.

Hello, Recently my GPG keys stopped working in Thunderbird. I didn't make any changes. From one day to another Thunderbird started not recognizing my key pair. Additionally, my private key has disappeared from my computer, it is not in the settings folder it should be in. When I access the Thunderbird Profiles folder I see that there are files named as corrupted "Secring.gpg.corrupt". See the attached image. What is the step-by-step to solve this problem? I would also like to know if anyone knows what may have caused this type of problem.

I have about ten IMAP mailboxes spread across some five different mail servers, two of which I control. Thunderbird downloaded my mail this morning, and asked for an update. I let it update to 102.6.0, and on restart the two mailboxes attacked to Sendmail / Dovecot servers could no longer retrieve mail. One is reporting "The mail server does not support any of the available authentication methods" (paraphrased, more on that below); the other simply sits and spins forever at "Checking mail server capabilities".

Because older versions of TBird do not seem to be available, I downloaded and installed the current beta 109.0b1. This version does not have the "authentication methods" issue, seemingly, but does still sit and spin forever on the other problem mailbox. Because profile format changed between 102 and 109, I cannot backstep to the older version to confirm the error message wording on the first mailbox.

Sometimes when I have a "sit and spin" mailbox, it will turn out that there is a certificate problem; hitting "Get Messages" will then bring up the certificate override window, and allowing the override will then make things work. In this case, it does not; if that's the error (which it shouldn't be, that certificate is current) it's not leting me fix it.

What are my next steps?

Yesterday morning (12/14/22), Windows 10 did an update. Afterwards, I noticed Thunderbird began periodically lagging. I first noticed it when typing a message. I would be typing but the characters were not showing up on the screen, then after a moment or two, they would rapidly appear and catch up. It would be fine for another couple seconds of typing and then happen again. I have also noticed it is slow to respond just selecting messages, when switching windows from one program to Thunderbird, and when doing something like changing the size of a pasted image in the Image Properties dialog box.

It is getting so bad as to be nearly unusable.

I have seen other posts on the forum about lagging when typing, but not necessarily the other overall lags and none mentioning the association with a Windows update. Has anyone else noticed this following the recent update?

I am running Thunderbird 102.6.0 (32-bit) and it is up to date.

Thanks for any assistance!

Been using Thunderbird for many years. Over the past couple of months I've been having significant issues with one of my IMAP accounts. The issues are getting worse.

First issue is that some emails will arrive only with a subject line - the message body and any attachments are missing. In addition some messages in the inbox return nothing, not even the message header - the preview from the previously selected email still shows up.

I've done a "repair folder" numerous times. It seems to make things worse as some emails from over a year ago show up as new emails, and selecting an email either has the same problem with no message body or if I'm lucky starts the process of "Loading message..."

The second issue that started only recently is that the spam detection is a bit out of control. A lot of legitimate emails are being flagged from senders that I frequently communicate with. And this morning I noted that when I select "Not Junk" on a message in the Junk folder, the email gets moved into my Inbox as it should, but the message body, which did appear when the email was in the Junk folder, is now gone.

Version is 102.6.0 (64-bit). I do have a lot of emails in my inbox - the bottom of the Thunderbird screen is saying there are over 26,000. Is there a practical limit? I don't believe that number is accurate however because if I scroll through all messages I can tell that number is way off (too high). Plus the number of unread messages indicated at the bottom of the screen doesn't match the number of unread next to my Inbox name.

I have "Synchronize all messages locally regardless of age" selected, and my \appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles directory is excluded from any anti-virus checking.

I have a second IMAP account with a Yahoo email. It doesn't seem to suffer any of the problems. I'm guessing either there is a limit to how many emails can be supported, or there is some incompatibility with my other IMAP host. Anyone else having these issues and is there anything else to try? Thank you.

Every few days, when I'm actively using Thunderbird (v102.5.1 32-bit, on Windows 11 Home), a white rectangle appears at the top of the page (see snip attached - if 2 appear, delete 1). The interesting thing is that this box persists IN THE SAME SCREEN POSITION, EVEN WHEN I MOVE THE THUNDERBIRD WINDOW AWAY. It overlays everything else on screen at that position, making use of any icon or button beneath it impossible. However, by moving the cursor across the box, it is clear that whatever is beneath IS being recognised by the cursor (as it changes style when above a button etc); clicking at that place does activate it (eg opening a file from a desktop icon). I have found no way of removing the box (which can't be moved) other than rebooting the PC. This anomaly was happening BEFORE both the upgrade to Windows 11 (from 10) AND recent Thunderbird upgrades. I can find no clues from searching here or elsewhere - help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I updated Thunderbird from 91.13.1 to 102.6.1.

All Addons are disabled/uninstalled. iMAP account and SMTP.

Normal Mode: I can send and receive if I do not check "save password". If I do try and save pwd it takes a long time but finally does refresh iMAP folders. No pwds are listed in the pwd manager. If I try and send and save the pwd it waits a long time and fails to send (connection failure) If I try and send and enter pwd without saving it it works fine.

Troubleshooting (TS) mode: Works perfectly I enter the password for iMAP and for sending SMTP it sends and receives quickly and I can see the pwd listed in pwd manager.

Restarting TB in normal mode after Troubleshooting mode and pwd manager list is empty.

I tried copying logins.json after it had saved pwd in TS mode and replacing it after normal mode no luck.

I tried with firewall on/off and antivirus on/off

My wife is using imap on her COX email account, for many years. Tonight she asked me to make a filter to move some accounting emails to the accounting folder. As I was doing this, ALL 19000+ emails in the inbox got "moved" from the inbox to the accounting folder. Stupidly, I immediately attempted to move all of them back to the inbox, this is when they all disappeared in the Tbird program. I checked the webmail.cox.net under my login and all of the emails seem to be in the accounting folder still. My wife is currently pruning out all of the spam....

I must have done something to cause the moving of the entire inbox, but I am unable to determine what. Please advise me the easiest way to recover the emails to TBird.

We are using the latest version of TBird, 102.6.1 on her PC. Windows 10. current windows update

Uninstall TBird and reinstall/resetup the imap account?

Thank you

Matt

I can receive E-Mails using thunderbird as a client but no send them. If I use the Microsoft web portal I can send and receive E-Mail messages.

When I send an email using any Microsoft E-Mail account I just receive the following message in a window. The Window is labeled as "Send Message Error". The message that I receive is;

Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.office365.com timed out. Try again.

I have tried the following: Changing client account settings, update software, searched the knowledge base, deleted the accounts and recreated them, removed all thundebird software and reinstalling.

What has caused this and how can I get the client the work again.

The junk folder is no longer visible to TB. The mbox (Junk, and Junk.msf) are still where they belong. Any help in getting it back please... TB seems to work but no longer gives me the option to junk an email. I use QuickFolders, and the junk tab now gives a response:

Invalid Tab: QuickFolders Tab: [Junk] account: account4 URI: mailbox://markh%40marketfire.com@mail.marketfire.com/Junk

There is no information in the junk mbox that needs to be saved. In fact I emptied (trash) last night.

If it helps, I regularly back up the drive, and have a backup from late last night, so if there is a particular file (or entire profile) to restore I should be able to do that from a very recent version.

System is Win 11, Tbird 102.6.1 (32bit), mail is via POP. Tnx for help.... .

“Thunderbird” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

Not sure what to do as have over a decade of past emails, folders and important information that I need to access. Seems like it will open latest Thunderbird (102.4.2) but when I tried to import profile with settings folders and old emails it would not and notes "Import failed unexpectedly, more info may be available in the Error Console - though have no idea how to access error console or where that is.

Any suggestions as need to resolve asap!!!! Thanks so much for any insights, help and support!!!
