This month I downloaded the current version of Tbird on a new computer running windows 11. Tbird receives all my email but can not send mail. I have an old computer running on windows 7 which has Tbird that was loaded at least 5 years ago. It receives and sends email without problems. The two versions of Tbird are using the same SMTP settings: server: mail.twc.com Port: 587. My email account for Tbird is slengyel@triad.rr.com

I also have a gmail account which receives and sends on both computers without problems. My gmail account is steve.lengyel9@gmail.com.

Both computers run through the same internet network.

I had Mozilla which I accidentally deleted a couple of years ago. Spectrum serviced my email, dmarsh38@roadrunner.com, since then but now has abruptly cut that off. I'm wondering if Thunderbird will resume servicing this email, and how do I make that happen, how do I access it, etc.? I'm trying to avoid having to change my email address of 30 years.

Dear Customer Service,

I forward many emails to my wife or our friends and end my comments at the beginning of the actual message with a signature switch and an underline. Unfortunately, the signature is not inserted in front of the message to be sent, but at the very end. If the message to be sent is several pages long, you cannot see the signature text at all, and it took me several attempts to find it at the end of the many pages. I find this very annoying!

Kind regards

I didn't know I had a Mozilla account. Should I create one? Download Firefox? I've relied on my Thunderbird e-mail program for decades. When my Google password changes it is always tricky to get Thunderbird to talk to Gmail. But I don't ever remember being asked for a primary password again. Looking through the "articles", I'm not sure they are talking about e-mail or web browsers. "The imap server imap.gmail.com does not support the selected authentication method. Please change the authentication method." I am using OAuth2 as my authentication method. I tried entering my Google password early Saturday and it started receiving mail again. I was ecstatic. But it didn't last! It broke down again. Please help. I've donated a lot of money to Thunderbird.

I am experiencing persistent issues configuring a custom-domain email account in Mozilla Thunderbird, while the same account works correctly in Outlook and in webmail.

Environment:

Email client: Mozilla Thunderbird (latest version)

OS: Windows

Mail hosting: Antagonist / DirectAdmin (shared hosting)

Domain: s23k.com

Email address: jean-paul.sablerolle@s23k.com

Incoming mail (POP):

Server: mail.s23k.com

Port: 995

Security: SSL/TLS

Authentication: normal password POP connection works without errors.

Outgoing mail (SMTP):

Server: mail.s23k.com

Ports tested: 465 (SSL/TLS), 587 (STARTTLS)

Thunderbird fails to send mail with the error:

“The requested domain name does not match the server’s certificate.”

Even after explicitly adding and permanently accepting the certificate exception, Thunderbird continues to reject the connection.

Important observations:

Webmail (Roundcube) can send mail successfully.

Microsoft Outlook can send mail successfully using the same SMTP server.

Thunderbird never completes SMTP authentication because the TLS handshake fails on hostname validation.

The certificate presented by the server appears to be issued for a different hostname than mail.s23k.com.

As a workaround, I am currently using an external SMTP server (KPN: smtp.kpnmail.nl), which works correctly in Thunderbird.

Question: Is Thunderbird intentionally stricter than Outlook regarding TLS hostname validation for SMTP, and is there any supported way to:

properly override this hostname mismatch for SMTP, or

diagnose whether this behavior is expected and unavoidable with misconfigured server certificates?

I would like to confirm whether this is expected Thunderbird behavior or if there is a configuration option I may have missed.

I am not trying to weaken security; I want to understand whether Thunderbird allows any safe override in this scenario or if the server configuration is fundamentally incompatible.
