when i am sent access codes, thunderbird takes a long time to receive them. can this be speeded up?

How do I delete over 4500 e-mails from my pc while I was on medical leave? I just want to remove all e-mails at once.

Suddenly TB has started to download ALL my emails again from the POP3 server.

Why is it doing this and how do I stop it?

i try to delete email from my folders and all mails but they wont delete, plus one account to full and cant receive any emails. What are solutions? Thank you
