Recently, my College switched to Outlook 365 mail.

I'm running the latest 64 bit Thunderbird on Windows 10.

We use OAuth2 for incoming and outgoing.

Incoming server is outlook.office365.com. OAuth2 is an authentication option. Fine. I use Microsoft Authenticator, and it works.

But, Thunderbird will not or cannot use OAuth2 on the SMTP sever, smtp-mail.outlook.com. It simply doesn't list the OAuth2 option. Even if I go back in and try to edit the server, it won't give me that option.

Other clients detect it fine.

Norton 360 updated last night and now Thunderbird isn't working.

I tried logging in to Thunderbird but it kept saying my certificate was wrong and refusing to check my emails. I tried to click "add exception" but it didn't help.

It also kept saying its own homepage was a security risk and blocking it.

I figured it was Nortons new update, but have no idea how to fix it. I turned off Nortons Email Protection, which didn't help. So I uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled it.

But now its saying it cannot login to the outlook server when I try to add an email account. I know the information is correct, all I can guess is that Norton is blocking it somehow?

Any idea on how I can fix this?

This annoyance started this week. Maybe it is 102? All I know is that messages with several back and forth replies are now ALL opening across the top of the screen. This is EXTREMELY annoying. Please make this stop!

I read about threads. I don't think this is the issue, but it might be. If someone replies to an email from me, I do NOT want to see five messages open across the top.

Thank you for any help in disabling this annoyance.

Just updated Tbird to ver. 115.3.1 and immediately noticed the more condensed appearance of emails in the inbox. Prior to update my inbox displayed fully on 1 screen and then I had to scroll down to see the last 10 or so. After the update all emails were visible on about 3/4 of a screen with no scrolling required. The problem is that this density makes for more difficult reading. I'm not sure if the font is smaller, but certainly the line spacing is smaller. Is there anyway to spread things out a bit? Thanks.

Every time I start Thunderbird version 102.7.0 during the day I have to enter each accounts password. Or when TB recheck mail on a cycle of 10 minutes I have to do it again. The saved password table is all ways empty whether I say save password or not. I can only say this is a new bug because older versions you only had to log into user accounts with password only one time after the account was created and never again. The saved password table has no manual way to enter password into the saved password table. This needs to be corrected to the old method of doing things because this is such a pain that it will drive away TB user to use some other email reader.

Changes/updates occurred today to Thunderbird creating problems. Current Thunderbird version is: 115.2.2 (32-bit) However, computer is: 64-bit running Windows 11

Changes observed:

  • Icon on desktop changed
  • The left pane no longer shows the number of messages in a folder--only the number of unread messages
  • When changing a message filter, the window is too big, and I cannot approve any changes--the buttons at the bottom are too far down and are inaccessible. It is not possible to adjust the window size.

The inability to change the message filters is a major problem. I have tried changing:

  • Font size
  • View
  • Density

I have also tried restarting Thunderbird and rebooting. None of these make any difference.

What should I do?

I operate many local folders where I store all my emails ("Mail" folder : 9,5Go) : I duplicate them on 2 different computers. The "ImapMail" folder (within the Thunderbird folder) weighs 23,4Go and [Gmail].sbd : 22,8Go while my mails on my gmail web-page only weigh 2,85 Go. I would like create a back up of my local folders (26 years of emails) in the cloud. Reading questions posted here, the recommendation is to backup the complete 'Profiles' folder. However, when I try and do so, I am not successful because at some point the backup process glitches out. (I am trying to upload the folder to a Microsoft OneDrive folder and have tried on both my PC running Windows 7 Pro and a Macbook running OS Monterey.) I suspect that my internet connection is not stable enough to copy 30 GB (about the size of the 'Profiles' folder). Is there any alternative to backing up the complete 'Profiles' folder?

Some time ago, Thunderbird changed the whole organization of the email presentation. I am a long-time Thunderbird user who is used to the old screen and organization and I want to find out how I can get the old screen and organization back. I've attached a screenshot so you can see which version of Thunderbird is causing me so much trouble. Why change the traditional top-of-the-screen menu: (File, View,Tools, Help)? It was so logical and so easy. The movable mish-mash that exists now is driving me crazy.

For instance, I used an app under Tools that presorted certain emails and routed them to assigned folders. Not only has the sorting gone wrong, I haven't got the faintest idea where the app is? The emails that were once successfully sorted and rerouted are not working. And they're turning up as read in random folders.

Firefox also changes things that don't need to be changed, but my experience there is that an add-on or extenstion soon turns up that restores the features that users like.

In my preliminary search on my problem, there was not one article. In fact, my search came back with the message that no article appeared to match my query. I guess I must be the only person that is not happy with this interface.

Is there a way I can get the old version back? I'm sorry if I seem grouchy, but I am 83 and not being able to find what I need and what I used to have makes me a tad tetchy.

I've been troubleshooting an issue where email from one user, Garry, gets moved to the Junk Mail folder. I have a sub-folder of Garry named "JunkMail". I'm not certain but I think that I must have created it for troubleshooting the issue with Garry's emails going to Junk Mail. I refer to that folder as GJunk. Here's what I need to understand better: 1. Is it possible that TB, not I, created GJunk? 2. Regardless how it was created, will emails that I mark as Junk and ones that TB automatically classifies as Junk, be moved to GJunk? 3. I think that there are some folders that TB creates automatically, right? Like Inbox, Trash, Sent. Is JunkMail another of those folders that TB creates automatically?

For troubleshooting, I sent an email to myself and marked it as Junk. It didn't get moved anywhere, it's still in Inbox. Later I sent another email to myself. It didn't get automatically marked as Junk.

Thanks for your help. SweetTasha

Hello all,

Is there a way to move emails from the "All Mail" folder to the "Inbox" folder with duplication? Or to find which emails aren't in "Inbox" and move only those? My mother is upset because she has a chunk of emails covering a few months in 2023 that aren't in her Inbox, and she wants them there.

I have 4 email address/accounts setup in Thunderbird (V 115.3.0) that accesses email through my Spectrum/Charter carrier. I am running Win 10 with all latest updates on a desktop PC, AVG free AV, and Defender firewall.

After the last 2 Thunderbird updates, my outgoing mail has began to fail. It was working fine before the updates. I have checked all settings in TB and have found that all of the SMTP settings are entered correctly, except some settings keep changing automatically.

The problem has been traced to the Account Settings/Edit SMTP Server where the last line for User Name is NOT stable for all four accounts. When the Account Settings User Name in the SMTP Server setting matches the account User Name in the Server Settings menu, outgoing mail works fine. However, when I try to use one of the other email accounts to send an outgoing email, I then get the error message below:

“Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: <warrenp3@charter.net> sender rejected. The email address you are sending as must match the email address you used to auth. Please check your SMTP settings. AUP#Out-1500. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again.”

I find that the User Name in the new 2nd email account now matches the User Name from the first email account. Now the 2nd outgoing email won’t work until I change the 2nd account’s User Name to match the 2nd email’s account. Unfortunately, changing the 2nd email setting with it’s own User Name then also changes the first email’s User Name to the 2nd one so that it now will get the above error message. I now have to back and forth like that in order to send emails from different accounts. No email account saves the User Name for it’s account nor do the passwords get saved for each account.

So help me resolve this issue. What can I do to correct these errors and get back to a usable email Thunderbird usage? HELP

Hello !

I've been looking for some ways to import GMail takeout exported mails files that use MBox format. Googling I found some extension to do it, named "ImportExportTools NG". I've tested and it seems to have some issues : for example, after importing some MBOX files, the mails counts doesn't match GMail's values. I have not spent time to diagnose it yet...

I've also tried to simply put my MBOX files in my TB local folders and it seems to work.

Please, could someone confirm that this last trivial way actually works, and thus there's no need to any extension or tool ?

Thanks for your help.

Regards.

Good Afternoon

I am trying to add a signature to my outgoing emails. This is the first time I have tried this. I have followed the instructions but my signature is not displaying exactly as I have typed it.

My signature has my name, address, telephone number and email address typed vertically and covering 6 lines with spaces between the lines.

When I go to compose a new email all the details of my signature are there but are being displayed all in one single horizontal line.

How do I get my signature to display vertically covering several lines?

Share a Thunderbird profile between different users on Windows 10

Hi

I have a setup with my machine where I use different user accounts for different purposes as this helps me manage a large number of different applications and setups. I want to use the same Thunderbird profile for each of these users as I am the same physical person, these are logical users not different people, and therefore the profiles will never be in use simultaneously.

Research on the internet suggests that this can be done by copying the Thunderbird profile to a globally accesible directory and then using the Profile Manager to point profile.ini to the global profile. I have done this but when I try to launch Thunderbird from a different user I get a message box saying 'Thunderbird is already running, but it is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window.'. If I click on 'Close Thunderbird' the message reappears. I have confirmed in the Task Manager that the Thunderbird process is not running.

Strangely, if I launch Thunderbird from the command line version of the Profile Manager Thunderbird launches with the correct profile and appears to work fine. A forum post suggested deleting the parent.lock file in the profile and doing this does allow Thunderbird to launch with the correct profile but then I get error messages saying it could not load the message summary as it's too big.

I have looked at this link here but it's not clear what is meant by 'have each user "move it" using the profile manager'. There is no move option in the Profile Manager (as launched from the command line), just Create Profile, Rename Profile (which I've tried as another user with the same problem suggested) and Delete Profile.

Here is my current profile.ini for the users that won't launch Thunderbird.

[Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=C:\ProgramData\Thunderbird Locked=1

[Profile2] Name=MarkDevelopment IsRelative=0 Path=C:\ProgramData\Thunderbird

[Profile1] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/uzxtlmbg.default Default=1

[Profile0] Name=default-release IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/hcw0nqcr.default-release

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1 Version=2

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is driving me nuts so any help appreciated.

I'm using a combination of Gmail and Thunderbird which was downloaded and installed yesterday, so I'm quite new to TB.

When I send an email from TB I always end up with a copy in my inbox. This happens regardless of the settings in "Account Settings/Copies & Folders" which behave correctly as far as I can tell. Have also unchecked the "Place a copy in" option but same problem. The email doesn't appear in the Gmail inbox (as you would expect), only the TB inbox.

I've tried on two different MIcrosoft platforms with two different Gmail accounts and get exactly the same behaviour.

Thanks in advance for any help.

TBird v102.12.0, 32bit, WIn7Ent.

Just started this morning, I'm getting the following error on one POP3 account:

The stat command did not succeed error getting message number and sizes mail server outlook.office.365.com responded server unavailable 21

This is happening only in TBird--I can get that account's email via my iPhone's built in email app--and it is happening on multiple PCs that are similarly configured.

I have multiple accounts set up on office365 (via GoDaddy). Others are working fine with the same settings.

What I have done so far, with no joy:

I have successfully logged into Office365 directly

I have regressed to an earlier version of TBird.

I have deleted and recreated the problem account (which required resetting the password). The deletion/recreation succeeded, but email will still not download for that account.

I prefer not to use IMAP.
