I allowed Thunderbird to upgrade to a new version first thing this morning (Windows 10) without considering the consequences. It had me enter a new profile. I keep pop my email from Gmail and keep my local account and local folders on a network share.

I got it pointed to my Local Folders just fine, but not my Inbox and Trash. Couldn't figure out how to point the account, then I realized that I just didn't scroll Server Settings. Oops. I pointed my email account Local directory at the folder on the share drive (neglecting to make a copy first, darn it), which is what I normally do when I install Thunderbird on a new computer or whatever. Unfortunately, the 200Mb inbox did not get incorporated like I had hoped, and I don't see any trash in there. Would have liked to keep both but at least the inbox data does still seem to be there. And, there is a backup, so I can still reinstall with the right process and recoup everything.

I installed the ImportExportToolNG add on, but it does not see the inbox, which does not have an extension anymore, as a directory. I just get a single email (subject only) if I try to import it as a file. It looks like there are still .msf files being used but I'm not sure what Thunderbird did to my share folder.

Is there a way to get the old account level emails from inbox and trash into the new account? Can I give the now "File" inbox file an extension that will help the import tool interpret it, so I can at least get it into a Local Folders folder?

Is there a way I can reinstall the old Thunderbird, so I can point it to yesterday's backed up folder and be up and running again without losing so much important information?

I feel like that would be the best strategy, if possible. I'm a bit frustrated here. Now it's downloading a bunch of crap from Gmail, like nothing I would want to keep, I don't think. I thought for a sec it was going to be my missing inbox, but no.

Hi,

We're using Thunderbird for email and want to add our new Microsoft Office 365 hosted emails to it. We've got it set up and can receive emails, but when we try to send, Thunderbird will not accept, and keeps asking for, the password for my account on the outlook.office365.com server. Is this a compatibility issue with TB/O365, or do I have it configured wrong?

TIA

I have an installation of Thunderbird 68.10.1 and have my profile setup. Every few days the installation downgrades automatically to 68.1 and my profile does not launch. All my settings are lost. To recover I have to go to Options > Advanced > Update and update to 68.10.1. It starts working again. See screenshot attached that shows me updating to 68.10.1 over and over.

Hiya. Over the weekend I was forced to recover my entire system from an image on an external hard drive. Nearly everything works as it did, but Thunderbird does not. Despite the application working technically, the profile I had doesn't show (no accounts and no emails).

I checked both the local and roaming AppData folders and all of the data are perfectly intact (including the large file sizes). The Troubleshooting Information confirms that the correct folder is being referenced for the profile (xxxxxxx.default-release). I tried many potential solutions found on the web site and from searching the web, such as creating a new profile and copying all of the AppData contents to the new profile, but none of them worked.

What's more is that I think the application was seen as a fresh install, since internal configuration snapped back to default. However, the Address Book looks fine.

My operating system is Windows 10 Home and the version of Thunderbird is 68.10.0 (32-bit). I'm running out of ideas. Could someone please assist?

Today I installed on my wife's computer version 68.2.2 over an existing version (cannot recall number). All addresses emails have disappeared. New version works, but cannot see any of her original information.

I have checked the profiles folder:

Two profiles: 0ys99ku.default-release and hrzce6bw.default

The second profile contains all of her past info ... need some guidance as to how to get the new version to recognize the older profile ... thanks John

'I already wrote but should say I'm on MAC not pc...'

I recently changed all my pop to imap.. It's been a disaster...I was not able to send or receive from any of my 3 computers after the change. It took me days of all my possible help "passing the buck" "not our end": a)my spam protection people, b)internet provider c)email domain hosts (2 of them- just for fun)

And, of course, the no tech support Thunderbird (fun part of the equation).... there is also a password problem somehow which I bypassed smtp finally using port 25 and 2525 unsecured...

and I now can send and receive...WOW.

I'm pretty much an expert after a full week of 8-12 hour days... This all happened because I was getting occasional failure to send bounce backs...thought I'd fix it...

Anyway current problems are: 1) working with our spam protector tech transitioning from my very happy pop life to imap: ALL my message folders (15 years worth of business email) in one box were deleted..

2)In my other domain all my message they seem to be there but are greyed out, labeled "IN BOX bla bla..."

Is it possible to recover these and how? I've looked in "Profile Folder" "Show in Finder" and some seem to be there... how can I pull out these folders and sub folders that I depend on for my work?

Is there anyone to help me??? Thank you.

I do not want to erase my emails that go back several years. Someone from the Community advised me to not use thumbdrive, so I bought an external hd. I have read others' problems and I do not want to create problems. But my laptop is running out of room. Can I store local folders on the external hd to free up space on my laptop's hd? If I move EVERYTHING to the external, will Thunderbird still be on my laptop? I sort of need walk-through help because I am not familiar with doing computer things.

I just want to import mail, setting etc into Thunderbird on a new Win 10 computer and go on with the remaining days of my life.

Is this too much to ask in 2020? :-)

I have tried downloading and running some of programs suggested here but can't make any sense and can't get them to work.

I believe I followed all the instructions listed here under "Thunderbird Help" regarding Moving Thunderbird Data to a New Computer.

I plugged in a 1TB external HD and followed all 14 bullet points moving Tbird data to the external hd.

I am no closer to making room on my laptop hard drive than I was before I bought the hd. Now I have moved a bunch of Thunderbird stuff onto it and I haven't a clue how to make more room on my laptop hard drive by moving Thunderbird local folders (which is what I need help doing) from it to my external HD.

I must make more room. If nobody from the Community can assist me, I shall have to delete my precious saved emails in order to continue using this almost full laptop. Again, I believe I followed instructions. They made no sense, but I followed them anyhow and here we are. I need more help than ever.

Thank you all. JL

Hello All,

I have used Thunderbird with several POP gmail accounts. Recently, I started migrating several accounts to use IMAP, but one account is stalling, then failing in copying the POP Inbox to the IMAP inbox.

I had followed the recommended procedure and succeeded migration with two other gmail accounts. For this account, I deleted my IMAP gmails online. Then created the IMAP account by New > Existing Email Account. Then I try to copy the POP emails to the IMAP folder. All is fine at this point.

I have 900 emails in the POP inbox locally, and when copying, it hangs and stops after copying 88 emails each time. I have varied the technique a few times, and deleted the IMAP account, then reinstalled. But always, it hangs after copying the same 88 emails, then stops.

I'd appreciate if anyone has any ideas. Thanks. Carl

I had to uninstall Thunderbird 68.10.0 and download Thunderbird Setup 60.9.1 just so that it would put .default in the app folder without the -release so that I could get the .default from my old hard disk drive and put it into the appdata folder and rename it to the new .default filename for it to work as it should

I followed all steps to copy Thunderbird profiles successfully to a new Thunderbird downloaded on a new computer. All email accounts, old settings, and folders (very large, 16.9g) are all in the left pane after I launched the new Thunderbird.

However, many folders in Chinese characters are duplicate, and do not show anything inside the folders. I have transferred the profiles to a new computer many times in the past 10 years, and I have been always successful without any problem using the same method to transfer from one computer Thunderbird to a new computer Thunderbird. But, this is the first time I encounter this problem - duplicate folders than contain nothing inside. I first downloaded the latest version of Thunderbird (68.10). It happened. Then, I thought I should try an older version (60), which is my old computer using Thunderbird 6.0. But it has the same duplicate folders that contains nothing or do not show up anything inside.

I searched in the support articles and discussions on Thunderbird. I tried to delete all MSF files in the folders, which took a long time to do, and restarted the Thunderbird. But, it still does not work. I tried to delete the duplicate folders, in many ways, but it did not allow me to delete. When I click on any folder in Chinese characters, it just has no response, blank in the folders, and it shows no files previously saved. But, if I click on the folders in English, they are working, and all messages saved show up.

I need all those folders which I saved for over 20 years on my teaching and research position. I have been perplexed and frustrated as I have tried to remove and reinstall Thunderbird and transfer data over 10 times in the past few days, spent days by days on this task without finding a solution. I think the only way now is to find an expert who knows the Thunderbird well to help me. I am even willing and happy to pay the service and work provided by any Thunderbird expert, so I can resolve the problem to get these folders work. All folders and sub-folders inside contain a lot of messages.

The strange thing that has puzzled me is that all folders and sub-folders in English work fine, and has messages, but those folders and sub-folders in Chinese language are all duplicate and contain no message inside. Please see the pictures attached for your reference. Can anyone kindly help me? Please do email me and alert me when someone would kindly offer help, and email me: sguo@sfsu.edu Thanks very much!

With those information when I am run "Re-test" button I am getting "The following settings were found by pprobing the given server", so it seems above information are correct, rhight?

But after trying to login I am getting: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration. username or password.

Long back story: My still-under-warranty work laptop was making a grinding noise. Remote diagnosis was a bad hard drive. Amazingly, I have on site repair (it must have been a special promo deal) but they had to order the replacement hard drive and hook me up with a technician. Figuring was going to lose everything on that hard drive, I made a copy of my Thunderbird profile (and many other files), installed Thunderbird on another laptop, restored the profile and kept working. The second laptop was supposed to be for non-work stuff, so it has less memory, a smaller HD, slower processor, etc.

Two days later the on site tech came and installed the new hard drive but the computer was still grinding. He determined the old hard drive was fine, it was the fan that needed to be replaced, so he put in an order for a new fan. I mentioned that the power connector was loose, so he also ordered a new motherboard. Two days later he's back with the fan and motherboard, but the power connector isn't part of the motherboard, so he has to order that part, and now it's July 4th weekend. He came back today and replaced the power connector, and, because there was nothing wrong with the original hard drive, he reinstalled that, too.

All in all, I used the non-work laptop for seven days. I backed up the Thunderbird profile from the non-work laptop, restored it to the work laptop, started Thunderbird, and realized that I had screwed up and backed up the profile in the appdata/local/thunderbird folder rather than the appdata/roaming/thunderbird folder. Then I started Thunderbird. There is a week's worth of email missing from my work laptop, but now there is a day's worth of new mail on it that isn't on the other one.

I save a lot of email. I use layers of folders and subfolders. My profile folder is 41.7 GB. Windows 10. POP mail server. Automatically download new messages and nothing is saved on the server.

Is there a way to selectively copy messages received and sent within a specific date range and somehow fill in that missing week?

I'm afraid that if I backup the roaming profile from the second computer and restore it to my work computer, I will duplicate everything in my ginormous profile.

Hi there, I am currently working from home using 2 laptops with both TB installed. One has a TB profile with several personal email accounts, and the other has a work email account. I would like to import the latter to the former without having 2 separate profiles to select from on start up of the programme. Instead just the one with all my email accounts in one place. NB because of the crisis I and my colleagues are working from home and cannot reach the person who could normally send me the configuration details so I can set it up manually. Thanks for your time! kind regards, Peter.
