I am getting the Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account all the time while using TBM, I have removed the gmail account and the pop up does not show, so I know it is for the email account just removed. I re-add the email address and enter the email address and password and let it find the config itself. Click Done, and get the Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account again, then click Allow and get the Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com. message in the bottom left of my desktop. How can i get gmail to work again please.

TB 91.7.0 (64-bit I used to send/rcv gmail no problm, started having issues ~ Oct 2021 I then setup a 3rd party app password in gmail account for thunderbird. That allowed me to Send Gmails, but, not receive it kept asking for password. Then I read to use OAuth2 and saw that Google will no longer allow 3rd party app passwords, so i deleted it in google, and set both Imap.gmail.com and smpt.gmail.com to use OAuth2 (both set for SSL/TSL). I did this just for smpt first when the 3rd party app password was still enabled, i could recv but, when i went to send, it would ask for password, i enter it, then it would sent msg to my cell phone to Allow thunderbird, i would press Allow on my phone, and Thunderbird would come up with Sending message.. with the progress marked all way to end BUT, it will never complete sending.... I have to hit cancel it then shows Failed message unable to authenticate. After I deleted the 3rd party app password in gmail settings, now when i start thunderbird or try to receive emails, it goes through the same authorization process with my phone, but, then never downloads any new emails. I have spend HOURS on this.. extremely frustrated (I have been forced to us ms mail which i really don't like, i am too used to thunderbird (although I wished thunderbird had check boxes on emails to select via checkboxes for delete, or moving, etc)

Most of my work life is in email. Over 25 years (starting with Mulberry) I have built up a custom IMAP folder hierarchy that makes work manageable, but Thunderbird 115 has broken this, now displaying nested subfolders at the top level sorted alphabetically. See the images for before and after. For example, there are now three "Administrative" folders that were formerly classified under superordinate folders for my roles as lab leader, graduate program chair, and departmental faculty member. Persons who used to be in Colleagues or Students subfolders are now at top level. Inexplicably, a few folders retained their hierarchy but most are flattened out. Now I need to scroll through hundreds of folders (have not counted recently but in the late 2000's I had over 500.)

I was able to revert to 102.14 using backups, but will be stuck with this version for the rest of my career unless Thunderbird fixes these problems. Thunderbird is so important to me that I make an automated monthly donation to the project, but will have to cancel if this is not fixed.

If anyone has found a work around please LMK. And Thunderbird team, please acknowledge and LMK whether this will be addressed or are IMAP users left behind?

Thanks, Dan Suthers

I would like create a back up of my local folders (26 years of emails) in the cloud. Reading questions posted here, the recommendation is to backup the complete 'Profiles' folder. However, when I try and do so, I am not successful because at some point the backup process glitches out. (I am trying to upload the folder to a Microsoft OneDrive folder and have tried on both my PC running Windows 7 Pro and a Macbook running OS Monterey.) I suspect that my internet connection is not stable enough to copy 30 GB (about the size of the 'Profiles' folder). Is there any alternative to backing up the complete 'Profiles' folder?

Tb 102.14.0 (64-bit)

I followed the instructions to copy the msgFilterRules.dat file to the D:\drive, then copied it to the IMAP profile. When I then opened Tb, which starts with the IMAP account, I found that there was only a single filter copied from the filter collection in the POP account.

What do I need to do to get the POP filters properly transferred to the POP account?

Lately I'm having trouble with my connection with outlook. I use a free outlook email address. Sometimes (not always) when starting Thunderbird, I get the "user authenticated but not connected" warning. After a while it's working again.

I have tried several settings but can't figure out what solves this issue.

I'm using port 993 / SSL/TLS and authentication method is set to normal password.

Most of the times this works.

When I switch to OAuth2, I get the Microsoft screen to login to my work / school account which I do not have.

I've search the web to find a solution for this but I can't find it. Hopefully someone can help me out because it drives me "nuts" ;)

Hello Thunderbird Community!

I have an issue that MANY people encounter nowadays, meaning having an old or current e-mail inbox online reaching it's maximal capacity...

I would like therefore to be able to:

1. Be able to download everything on my PC/Laptop - No problem with that, already done by the way

2. And then being able to delete 80% of the e-mails on the server - but NOT on my PC - and doing so directly VIA Thunderbid by selecting/filtering in one single operation these 80% of e-mails by stating for example: all e-mails received since the beginning until 6 months ago to be deleted but only on the online server NOT in my PC

In the end I will then have: - All my e-mails since the beginning still safely and forever on my PC - 80% of the received e-mails until 6 months ago removed from the online server and online inbox platform so as to get back again plenty of space

Two questions: 1. Is this possible? 2. How?

Thank you very much guys!

Rick

This is also not related to gmail, live.com, icloud or other exchange accounts, only my IMAP accounts are having this problem. I have it set to a unified folder and I display both sent and inbox in the thread. Some of the items in the inbox show twice and some, if not most of the items in the sent folder on the thread show twice as well.

About 10 days I started getting nthe following error message.

Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: Too many failed authentication attempts.

I have a gmail account and this works fine, my incomming POP account is OK, but the outgoing mail mostly will not send. The error corrects itself occasionally and works OK. I have checked all the settings and raised 2 calls to LCN who assured me the error was not at their side (my webmail still works OK). Any suggestions, I have deleted the password and re-entered it. Many thanks .

I can send emails from my iPhone using the identical Outgoing Server Settings. The settings are in the screenshot. Also downloaded the latest version of Thunderbird today. Didn't fix it. To get around the problem right now is I am composing my emails (IMAP), saving them in my drafts and then sending them from my iPhone.Any ideas? Thank you!

I use Thunderbird email on my Windows 11 computer. My ISP for this is AOL. As of yesterday, 27 Aug 2022, I can not receive email and get this error message "The server does not support the selected authentication method. Please change the "authentication method" in the "Account Settings/Server Settings". My server settings are set to the AOL requirement of OAuth2 and have been working fine until yesterday. My Thunderbird was upgraded to 102.2.0 about the time that I noticed the email problem. Only the incoming server is affected; I can still send outgoing mail. I have the same problem on a second computer that is running Windows 10. Thunderbird on that computer was also upgraded to 102.2.0. How can I fix this issue?

Update 29 Aug 2022 - The above quoted error message from the server goes away if I change the Authentication method for the incoming server to "Normal Password" instead of "OAuth2". When I provide my AOL password (which is valid because I am able to log directly into AOL email) I get this message "Sending of password for user vvchamb did not succeed. Mail server pop.aol.com responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later." About a year ago AOL required me to change the authentication from Normal Password to OAuth2 and this has worked until the latest Thunderbird upgrade.

bold text4 or 5 years ago i simply synced TB and Firefox straight to my laptop from my desktop. Today it does not seem to work that way. Why has it gotten more complicated? I have all of my emails, address's and etc.saved profile and cannot seem to replace it. I tried the thunderbird.exe -p and it gets confusing there. Apparently it does not give one the option to replace profile like mine, but one can create one. I tried creating by entering my old Profile and it did not work. It says to use the Browse button which should bring you to the actual spot to add your profile. I do not see a 'Browser" button, but do see 2 separate folders buttons, but i do not know which to choose, if any. I have donated in the past when things were working smoothly, but discourged to add to it now with all these upgrade mess's. Like they say, "if it ain't broken, leave it alone..." s amd

The upgrade 115.3.1 (32-bit) is unsatisfactory to many people. For me, the worst part is the superhuge message display. I can't seem to be able to reduce the size/font of the displayed message. Other people seem to have the same problem on your "help" site. This kind of display makes it impossible to skim a major part of a message before deciding whether to open it or not. Can you please tell me if this can be fixed and/or if I can get back to the prior version of Thunderbird? I support Mozilla and Thunderbird, but this is the first time I'm really disappointed by an update. Sincerely, Jane [removed phone# and email from public support forum]
