Last October my sessions were gone after a Firefox Update. I asked for help here: https://support.mozilla.org/sv/questions/1394685 and eventually got kind help from @cor-el (that unfortunately wasn't skilled enough to understand) and from @RayGibson57. But by then, my life was in a flurry and I didn't have time to try the advice. And so, after a while I had, with some effort, gathered many of the old tabs back again, and built up new sessions.

This Monday I was trying to internet while having high fever (something people should never do :o ). I left three blank windows open when I shut down the computer, and next morning those three were the only ones Firefox wanted to remember.

(I still find this change frustrating, bordering on infuriating: what happened to "Choose how many old sessions you want Firefox to remember", I think the maximum was ten?)

Now the fevers left and I went to those answers to try. That Q/A was archived though, so I'm starting again here, from as far as I got following King Rays instructions. They were:

  1. Open the application menu (3 horizontal lines) next to the address bar.
  2. Click on Help -> More troubleshooting information.
  3. With that page open, find Profile Folder and click on Open Folder. That's how you get to the folder with backup files in it.
  4. Set computer up to see all the extensions & system files. By default, the extensions don't show up (.jsonlz4 is an extension).
  5. I found an older file in that sessionstore-backups folder and copied it one level back to the main profile folder.
  6. Renamed the sessionstore.jsonlz4 to sessionstore.jsonlz4.old and the file I copied, I renamed to sessionstore.jsonlz4.
  7. Opened Firefox and that missing window was in the history so I could open it.
  8. Don't make any typos here, because Firefox won't find the files it needs to open.

I got as far as finding the Profile folder and the sessionstore-backups folder.

But I cant find any jsonlz4 file called "sessionstore". Only a "sessionsCheckpoints" and that one is a json file, and the date modified is today.

See screenshots please!

Can anyone talk me trough this like Im a grandmother from Sweden with extremely limited coding & tech skills (which is what I am)?

In Firefox 114.0.2, the tab foreground color for most NYTimes.com pages initially is black, but after an instant, the foreground color now becomes gray. The background color is a similar gray, so the tab symbol for the NYTimes (beginning with an ornate letter T) cannot be distinguished from the background. The NYTimes tab foreground color used to remain black.

For an example, go to https://www.nytimes.com/. The tab foreground colors for some NYTimes pages remain black; for example, go to https://help.nytimes.com/hc/en-us. I think this tab foreground color change began recently, less than a month ago. This problem does not occur for web sites other than the NYTimes. Restarting my computer does not help. This tab color problem does not occur in Edge or Chrome.

Thanks for any info

I have custom URL's set when opening my homepage. For the last few weeks, Firefox has been opening tabs from the last session. I've checked the URL's and they are correct in the settings but for some reason they're not loading properly.

These are the correct URL's in the setting page. https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/UiJewelryMaui/tools/listings/state:sold_out,sort:sold_out_date,stats:true|https://www.etsy.com/messages?ref=seller-platform-mcnav|https://www.shopify.com/|https://maui.clareityiam.net/idp/login|https://outlook.office.com/mail/|https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0/r?pli=1|https://www.microsoft365.com/?auth=2|https://www.canva.com/|https://hawaii.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/parents/hawaii.jsp|https://mauinews.org/pub920.htm|https://www.mauicounty.gov/Bids.aspx?CatID=19|https://hiepro.ehawaii.gov/vendor-dashboard.html|https://us2.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns?ref=plums_nav&_ga=2.43380451.756894218.1698551103-1299448220.1698551096#f_bucket:recent;t:campaigns-list|https://hawaiicovid19.com/

However, the pages that load at start up are not these URL's, instead they're opening with the ones in the photo I provided. How do I fix this or do I need to select a different default browser?

I need pinned tabs to show their title, just like normal tabs. They currently only show an icon, but apart from the fact that in my case the icons are identical to one another so I can't know which one is which without hovering them, I'm more of a text person anyway.

So, how to make pinned tabs show their title?

The updating to the latest edition of Firefox caused all my open tabs to be lost. There is nothing showing up in "History" and no text links to click on to restore any of the tabs I had from the previous session. This makes me want to never again update Firefox because updating means losing all the open tabs that existed in the previous session before the update. This is a major browser bug that you should repair because this bug really tarnishes the reputation of Firefox browser.

I have the add-on Tab Stats. This lists and groups tabs by unique domain or unique URL listing duplicates in a separate sub-tree. On each url item there is listed the last access date/time.

Is it possible to get a list and group tabs by last accessed date? I've put in a request on the extension for this feature - New tree - List by age exponentially but the authors appear inactive and unresponsive.

What is the best way to encourage development of this feature if not available in pre-existing extension or feature (which is preferred of course)?

Let's say I have 20 windows open, each with 30 tabs on. Instead of these windows consuming resources and sitting open, I want a really, really easy way of "saving" each window as is (as they're organised by topic), closing them, and then by hitting just a couple of buttons voila, I can see all the potential windows, select what I need and have it open, and easy to shut again in reverse.

How can I do this? I can't make head nor tail of Firefox bookmarks - have examined the menu option, have read the articles, still as clear as mud. For example, "save all tabs" doesn't seem to mean save all tabs, it just means save tabs in the window you've maximised. Then after creating its own folder in Bookmark menu, when I added a new tab to it I thought that would update. It doesn't. Then I manually did another "save all tabs" for that menu - and the new tab didn't appear.

I don't even know if Bookmarks is the way to even attempt what I'm trying to do here in my question. Does anyone have any great tips on how to minimise the firefox window clutter, but have it really accessible easily?

Thanks.

I was on my computer browsing reddit and Twitter, when I accidentally moved my mouse to the bottom of the screen and it brought up my toolbar. I already had Firefox open so I hadnt needed to look at my toolbar all day. I noticed there was an incognito tab open for a camgirls page on a porn site. I wasn't in incognito mode and have never once used incognito.

I didn't click any bad links or anything to my knowledge since I was mostly just playing neopets and browsing my social media, not clicking any links. My husband is sleeping and I asked him if he did this on my computer and he said no and went back to sleep and I couldn't get anymore answers out of him.

I don't want to jump to conclusions if it was just a popup that I somehow did. So can a popup open an incognito window if I'm not in incognito? Or is my husband cheating on me with camgirls behind my back when I'm at work?
