Hi,

I use the latest FF for MacOS.

When I "close" Firefox by clicking the red cross in the top left corner of the window, I lose all open tabs when I start again despite having the option of restoring the previous session checked. When I "close" the whole thing (right click on FF in the Dock, Quit, and then re-open), all my tabs are back normally.

So basically every time i click this red cross, by mistake or not, I lose anything that's open.

Feels like I did not have this issue before.

Anyone has a workaround or experiences a similar issue?

Thanks!

I have pinned various shortcuts in the New tab to link to websites I frequently use. I use two different laptops and both are configured the same. However the New tab randomly clears the pinned shortcuts. I have attached two screenshots illustrating the changes.

I'm not aware of anything I do that caused the shortcuts to be deleted. When they are pinned I think they should be there permanently.

Just recently been getting yahoo search engine results to open in new tabs rather than the same tab. I have searched for other users that have the same problem and have done the tracking protection thing and deleted cookies, but nothing helped. Also tried Troubleshooting Mode and it still persists. Any other ideas that may help? I'd appreciate it.

We already can add a custom url for new windows, so why not for tabs.

Firefox is taking weird directions.

Hello! Can you help me sort out a little problem? I am reaching out to seek assistance with a specific issue I am encountering in the Firefox browser.

In my previous browser, when opening new tabs, they were considered active even if I did not immediately switch to them. This behavior allowed me to open multiple tabs, for example, by using the mouse wheel to open several videos from the main YouTube page. Subsequently, when closing the main page, the videos would be available in the order they were opened, facilitating a seamless viewing experience.

Upon transitioning to Firefox, I have attempted to configure the browser to replicate this behavior using the Sidebery extension. However, even with the extension, new tabs are not recognized as active unless I explicitly switch to them, making it challenging to maintain the desired tab activation order.

I have explored various settings and experimented with the Sidebery extension but have not been successful in achieving the desired result. In contrast, the Yandex browser, with the "Switch to the previous active tab when closing a tab" option enabled, behaves in the manner I am accustomed to.

Could you please provide guidance on how I can configure Firefox to consider new tabs active immediately upon opening, regardless of whether I switch to them immediately?

I added pictures to make it clearer what I'm talking about.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

It only backs up the tabs from your last close, so if you had a problem and closed twice, all your tabs are gone. There are many many easy ways to change it so this can never happen to people anymore. Why has this not been fixed after all this time? I am a retired IT pro and this has even happened to me. It is horrible. What can users do to not have this happen, since the developers apparently can't be bothered? And please don't tell me not to keep so many tabs open JUST because the browser sucks at protecting them. Any good news appreciated. Thanks.

I'm facing a bewildering problem with Ctrl+Shift+T, which has only started in the past few hours and persisted through troubleshooting.

In short, it's opening a default new tab when I press that combination, rather than reopening the last closed tab, as is its normal function. The problem is not that the tabs themselves are lost -- the "Reopen Closed Tab" drop-down menu entry is still available on right-click, and seems to function as expected. Similarly, I checked about:config to see if there was a problem with sessionstore or sessionrestore, both of which are at their default settings and can't be causing this. Rather, something about the combination itself is no longer working.

I ran Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to see if any of my settings were causing this. The problem persisted there, so that doesn't seem to be the case.

A little over a month ago, I got a new phone and synced up my desktop and mobile (Android) Firefox tabs, which I hadn't done previously. This is really the only thing I can think of that would lead to any issues, but it's impossible to match the timeframes -- I noticed this problem today, five hours ago. (The failure for ctrl+shift+t to work includes tabs that were opened from mobile sync.) I make heavy use of this keyboard shortcut and would've noticed it earlier if it started earlier.

Something about Ctrl+Shift+T itself is not properly being 'translated'. Ctrl+T works as expected (opens a blank tab), which is the same thing the Shift version is doing. Both my Ctrl and Shift keys are working fine in other respects (e.g. shift key capitalizes letters and adds special characters), so it's not keyboard hardware. It's not "inconsistent" -- it consistently works for everything else, and consistently doesn't work for this.

I'm using Firefox 122.0 on Windows 11.

I have used Firefox for 10 or 20 years and have not encountered this before.

New computer running Windows 11 Home. New Firefox install. If I am writing a message in any forum or social media site, and I need to look-up some info or the name of a place or product and I use another tab to do that, when I return to the original tab, Firefox reloads the entire page again instead of just returning me to the post that was being written without reloading the entire page. It can be a severe waste of time trying to find the post I was in the middle of once the entire tab reloads when the site is a busy place with lots of new and updated posts.

I've been through Firefox settings but did not see anything that seemed to be related to this issue, but perhaps the wording/description of the needed setting wasn't clear.

I understand that as outlined [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pinned-tabs-keep-favorite-websites-o...], pinned tabs aren't designed to be closed with ctrl+w.

I would still like that behavior though, is there a way to either assign a shortcut to that funktionality (one that I would just also map to ctrl+w) or remove the protection altogether?

I know that you can change a lot of thing sin about:config, so I have hopes that there might be something for this as well. Alternatively, do you maybe know of a plugin to allow this?

What wouldn't be useful are solutions requiring additional actions (Just unpin first, just use MMB, here is a plugin to give you a shortcut to unpin etc).

If it is just not possible right now, is it likely to become an option later on? If not it seems like a useful feature request. I understand that the current default behavior makes sense, but part of what makes firefox great and different is its customizability, so having what I want be a hidden about:config toggle feels very on brand (or even a setting in the normal settings menue - but even there it might be too niche and cause bloat).

In my location, my only option for internet access is a mobile hotspot with limited data. Consequently, I am always mindful of my data usage when using my laptop. Despite primarily browsing static pages, email, and other low-data activities, I often find my data usage higher than anticipated. The main culprit comes to mind to be videos embedded in news articles. Sometimes, with multiple tabs open, I switch to an inactive tab only to find a video playing. Although I've configured my Firefox preferences not to autoplay videos, it seems that YouTube videos still override these settings.

So, my question is, when a tab is inactive, does Firefox stop all data transfer for that tab in the background? And if not, what are the solutions to stop any background data other than continually closing all tabs?

Also, any suggestions on this topic are appreciated, especially from and to users who also live in remote areas without fiber, DSL, etc.

And if I click on restoration in History it will bring up a whole bunch of old tabs not neccessarily from the last session.

I'm on the same computer as I've been for over a year, so I don't know what what the problem is. I've searched on it and tried to re-check the box for this function. But it won't apply...

Hi Windows 11. Every time I open a new tab and make a search I get a field under the bookmarks for my google account. I do not want this. On the web it says I should go to account settings and scroll down to the Linked Accounts section. I cannot find that section. Elsewhere I read that I have to do something in my google account as well. How do I get rid of the field for my google account when searching in firefox, please?
