I got "Unexpected error" when trying to sign in to Firefox Sync.
I have no such issue with my office computer.

Firefox has begun opening very [very!] slowly, as well as crashing and freezing during use. This is happening on all of my three machines, two running Win 7 and one Win 8. I have tried refreshing and disabling hardware acceleration, but to no avail. Now it seems to freeze on opening and takes a minute or two even to become responsive, if at all. When I look at Task Manager during a freeze I see the Firefox process is using 35-50% of memory [i have 8GB, 12GB and 16GB] and up to 50% of processsor resources. All has been fine until the last couple of weeks. As an adjunct, in the last month I have noticed an almost permanent error message on the status bar - "Sync encountered an error while synchronising: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."

Hmm, somehow I am unable to sign into Sync over the past few days or perhaps a week even, idk. At first I got an "Email just returned" error upon trying to sign in, and now I end up with an "Unexpected error". Entering about:sync-log doesn't show any entries from the present day relating to the error.
And to make sure that this has nothing to do with the plugins I have on my installation, I tried signing in on a clean Firefox config to no avail.

There is no "manage account" option for sync on any of my devices, and I can't set up any new sync devices. How do I fix this?
Since none of my devices have a "manage account" selection under Sync (or Sync set up), there's no way to get or reset my recovery key. I only see "Set up Firefox sync" a… (funda kabanzi)
Since none of my devices have a "manage account" selection under Sync (or Sync set up), there's no way to get or reset my recovery key. I only see "Set up Firefox sync" and "Pair a device". Everything else leads to a dead end without access to a recovery key or being able to manage the account.

Hi all, I just noticed that there was an update to Firefox’s sync service and it seems that my old sync details no longer work so I need to move to the new system. Since I do so much of my work and I keep so much highly personal information in Firefox, I just wanted to know how I can check if this new Firefox sync service is safe. Is my personal information safe? Can my personal information be shared with others? Can the Mozilla people access my personal information? I didn’t want to use Firefox Sync until I was 100% certain that it was safe and nobody could access my personal information such as the Mozilla people or anyone else.

Everything was hunky dory until the awful v48 update. With no other changes to the system, bookmarks are now annoyingly slow to use. If I try to bookmark this page for example, FF has to think for 2-5 seconds before I can enter tags. After saving the bookmark it freezes for another 1-3 seconds before I can do anything else. This is an awful downgrade.
There were absolutely no other changes to my setup except for the update. I didn't change any preference, install an addon, or the like. In any case, I performed a safe mode test and this makes the pauses even worse.
What else can I try? Your FF knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

strange behavior with Firefox bookmarks that don't get properly saved

I'm using FF63.0.3 and a Mac with OS 10.11.6. Firefox works generically well EXCEPT sometimes when I try to save bookmarks, all hell breaks loose. I save them, they LOOK like they're saved, and I try to sync. The sync goes off in never-never land, and never finishes. Aaargh, I say, and I restart Firefox, whereby my new bookmarks are GONE! No memory of them. No record of being at them in my History. Now I should say that when I kill Firefox in this circumstance, I get an "Application not responding" error, so clearly something has already been hosed.
I should say that this happens occasionally. Not always. But it's pretty exasperating when it does, trying to recover those lost bookmarks. Normally, when I sync, it just takes a few seconds, and everything is keen.
Insights abut why, or how to prevent this? This has been going on for months, surviving re-downloading Firefox, and reboots.

Your "Note" says that "If you don't see a Sync section in the menu, you are signed in to the old version of Sync." Then there is a link entitled "How to update to the new Firefox Sync." I clicked this link and found a statement to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox. Well, I already have the latest version of Firefox, 33.0.1 on my Windows 8.1, 64-bit laptop. So what gives? Will you PLEASE let me know how I can sync all of my bookmarks and home page to my new Surface Pro 3. I've already downloaded and installed the same version of Firefox on the Surface Pro 3. I don't know why - possibly after a firefox update to 49.0.2? But Firefox on Windows 10 is no longer saving or using my saved passwords. When I try to display saved logins, there are none showing. However, I do have intact key3.db and logins.json files, and I can see in logins.json that there are lots of logins stored in there. So I'm sure the data are there, but just not being read.
Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't help. Refresh didn't help. Synch seems to connect, but doesn't help. Isn't there some command to force the browser to read the saved logins file?
