Since pretty much the beginning of the internet, pop-ups were deemed a significant annoyance, so much so it diminished and ruined the users’ browsing experience and significantly reduced efficiencies. Hence the addition of pop-up blocking settings to all browsers long ago.

However, for some unknown reason Firefox gives Google a free pass and allows their “sign-in” pop-up that pop-ups seemingly on every website you visit where you then have to then manually close the pop-up on pretty much every single website you visit - even though you have the pop-up blocker setting on ( and the only way to turn off a pop-up blocker is to specifically add a website to allow for pop-ups).

This is absolutely horrible and not acceptable. If you have the pop-up setting on, no pop-up should be allowed to get through no matter what it is or the source. If you allow one pop-up to continue then you should be allowing hundreds of thousands of other pop-ups as well. But you wouldn’t as you know this would be unacceptable, but again, somehow Firefox allows Google’s pop-up to go through and it pop-ups on pretty much every single website you visit.

Note that I selected Privacy and Security Setting as the "topic" above as that is were Firefox has it's pop-up setting (and where you can add exceptions to allow pop-ups for specific websites)

My laptop is often "borrowed"; access to my "recently bookmarked" items can (occasionally) be inappropriate. I am surprised that there is not a 'easy to access' method to toggle it OFF (!?) I found the below describing how to does this. HOWEVER, I do not find the key (showRecentlyBookmarked).

SUGGESTIONS ?

using: Windows 10 Home 22H2 build 19045.3930

Directly Edit a Preference The menu item switches a hidden preference from true to false, and you can do that directly as follows: (A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful. (B) In the search box above the list, type or paste book and pause while the list is filtered (C) Double-click the browser.bookmarks.showRecentlyBookmarked preference to switch the value from true to false

My Windows Task Scheduler contains an entry called "Firefox Default Browser Agent". If I delete it, it returns. If I disable it, it re-enables itself. Can't be modified either. How do I turn it off permanently?

I already have telemetry and automatic updates both turned off.

In about:config default-browser-agent.enabled is set to false

I trust this message finds you well. I am currently using Mozilla Firefox as my preferred web browser and I'm interested in ensuring that I have the latest version installed for optimal performance and security.

Could you provide a step-by-step guide on how to update Mozilla Firefox to the latest version? I'm curious about the frequency of updates and whether the process varies for different operating systems I'm using windows.

Additionally, I'd like to understand if there are any precautions I should take before initiating the update, such as saving bookmarks or ensuring compatibility with installed extensions.

Furthermore, are there any notable features or improvements in the latest version that I should be aware of? I want to make the most of the browser's capabilities and stay informed about any enhancements.

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I appreciate your expertise in guiding me through the Firefox update process.

Best regards,

When trying to update Firefox on my Linux Mint system, I saw this in settings:

Updates disabled by your system administrator. Well, I am the administrator. I checked and I have administrator privilege, and I would not have disabled updates. How to I convey that to Firefox so I can update my browser?

Please email me: [removed email from public support forum] with a response.

Thanks.

I am using Mozilla Firefox on MS Windows 10. I want to add an autoconfig file to lock some preferences. As per this doc firefox.cfg and autoconfig.js need to be saved in the same directory where firefox is installed. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-autoconfig

I had downloaded firefox from the Microsoft store. Firefox is installed in the %programfiles%/WindowsApps folder, which is owned by 'trusted installer'. Because of this a normal user cannot write to this folder, not even with Admin access.

Is there a way to set auto config without changing folder permissions? Can I save the firefox.cfg and autoconfig.js somewhere else other than the install folder?

As of January 2024, I am constantly being asked for a Primary Password when I use the Firefox browser. I do not believe I ever set a Primary Password or Master Password with Firefox, and I have been using Firefox for many years. When I go to the Settings page, it says to confirm my current Primary Password in order to change it. But I need to know my current password to do that. I also unchecked Primary Password, and got a pop-up that said if I remove my Primary Password my information will not be protected if my computer is compromised. Obviously, I don't want that to happen. Is it possible I am being asked for a Primary Password because I am using a VPN? Please advise on how to resolve this problem. I can't change my password, and I can't confirm ever setting one so I am concerned. Thank you.

Before updating Firefox to 123.0.1 (64-bit) + MacOS Sonoma, I could use FIDO2 on OnlyKey and login to my proton mail. Now, however something has changed on Firefox that I get presented with two prompts to touch my usb key, but the key itself doesn't respond to the second prompt and login fails.

I first get this prompt as before. I select 'Authenticate' and would be presented with the second picture. Since my key is not expecting to be touched, nothing happens when I touch it and login fails with the message displayed in the last picture.

I keep getting this message from Network Solutions when I try t read my webmail. We’ve determined that you are connecting to your email using an unencrypted client connection and your data is not safe. Where in Firefox can I make the changes?

This security update requires all email server connections to use an encrypted connection. We will make the switch to require encrypted connections on April 4th, 2024.

What does this mean for you? Read on to learn about the important actions you need to take to make sure your email stays safe and secure.

IMPORTANT! Actions that you need to take before April 4th, 2024:

When setting up your email in a third-party client, you are now required to enable Outgoing Server (SMTP) authentication and SSL/TLS. This ensures a secure connection when you log in to your email. Learn more about these steps here.
Set up or update your email account on your device using the server settings as shown below:
       Incoming Mail Server:
           POP3: netsol-pop-oxcs.hostingplatform.com
           Port: 995
           IMAP (Recommended): netsol-imap-oxcs.hostingplatform.com
           Port: 993
       Outgoing Mail Server:
           SMTP: netsol-smtp-oxcs.hostingplatform.com
           Port: 587
Username - Your full email address, for instance, help@example.com
Password - The password you set for your mailbox
Review this list of mail clients that do not support TLS 1.2 (If you are using any of these mail clients, you will need to update to a newer version or use webmail to access your email)
       Outlook® 2007
       Outlook 2010
MacMail on MacOS 10.8 or before
       Windows 7
Review this list of Operating Systems that support TLS 1.2 (If you are using an older version, you will need to update to a newer version as listed below)

Operating System TLS 1.2 Supported OS versions Android Mobile Android 5 and newer iOS Mobile iOS 9 and newer Windows Phone Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 Windows Desktop Windows 8 and newer Mac OS Desktop Mac OS X 10.11 and newer

Please visit our Help Center for more detailed instructions.

Note: This security update requires action if you use an email client application to send and receive your email on an Apple, Windows-based PC, or Android device. Webmail Access will still be available.

Why was Firefox View taken away in Private Browsing mode?

I thought that in Private browsing mode, using Tools > Settings > Privacy & Security > Clear Data > Clear > Clear Now cleaned out everything in mid-session. It turns out that's not true, for example, using Firefox View I found that the list of Recently closed tabs in three-bar menu > History > Recently closed tabs was NOT cleared. The only way to see that was with Firefox View, which you could then use to delete items from the list.

With the new version of Firefox (119.0) Firefox View has been removed from Private browsing mode entirely. Thus not only is it impossible to see if the recently closed tabs list has been cleared, but it's impossible to clear the list even if you could see it. That leaves the only way to be (fairly) sure things are cleared out during a Private browsing session is to close the browser entirely, which is an annoying pain.

Why was that feature removed? How can I tell if the recently closed tabs have been cleared without it?

Thanks.
