How do I get Firefox to open to Google when I click on a new tab? It used be set to do that before Firefox updated itself. Now it opens to a page with a bunch of different website thumbnail. I don't care about that. I hate it. I just want it to open right to Google. Please tell me how to correct this problem. Thanks.

When I try to open a link to my college's library website the message, "disallowed key characters" appears. What does this mean? In the past, I was able to open this link and access the library's catalogs without a problem.

How do I remove the automatic reset of Firefox to the awful yahoo search engine? I want Google as default search engine. Here is what I have already tried: a. Choosing Google over yahoo and then deleting the yahoo from preferences: Firefox always springs back to yahoo. b. Dowloading the "Google default" app. This worked on earlier versions of Firefox, before V 38.0.1. But it appears that the commercial interests behind Firefox have now circumvented this, as well, because the "Google default" app now no longer works. c. Erasing, and then re-installing the "Google default" app. No improvement.

If there is no way to deal with this, then I'm dumping FF and switching to Google Chrome.

While reading foxnews.com today, I was getting Access Denied messages when I clicked on articles I wanted to read. I have been reading this site for years and this has never occurred before. I closed the browser window and opened another. It wouldn't even let me open fox news but it allows me to open CNN. I am using my personal MacBook Pro at home. No network. What's up with this?

Firefox will not copy/paste within itself from pull-down menu. Will not accept/paste material copied from Mac email, from Word, from Safari. Without copy/paste, the browser is USELESS.

Firefox these days has an annoying habit of starting videos on every news page that I open and when I scroll through my facebook newsfeed. There is only a very select amount of these videos that I would actually want to watch, and it's annoying to be bombarder with this media constantly.

I have tried disabling auto-play in the config page to no avail, and am not interested in installing add-ons to accomplish a task that should be handled by the browser itself.

So, does anyone know of a method to accomplish this with FireFox's own settings, or alternatively recommend a browser that does not have this offensive behavior ?

Since I use my computer for both work and personal activity and I conduct a lot of online meetings it is a distraction and unprofessional to have a bunch of website thumbnails showing up if I happen to need to open a new window while sharing my screen. This is one reason I stopped using Chrome ad now I see it's an issue with Firefox.

This question was asked .. And SOLVED for the person asking it .. but, not in a way that was understandable to me. So, I'm just asking for some details which could be followed as a tutorial.

(2) Close Firefox application. (3) While having the Firefox profile folder open in Finder, open Time Machine from the menu bar at the top of the Mac screen. (4) The Finder folder will then be displayed for all previous updates. Select the most recent update (or the update that would contain your browsing history), select the profile folder, and then click restore. (5) Exit Time Machine.

My Firefox browsing history is fully restored."

This is good to know .. there is hope, for I have the same problem.. I had to delete Firefox after using it from the beginning .. For some reason the selection of my preferred search engine (Google) always came up with "Yahoo" .. no matter how I configured preferences .. I assumed there was a Yahoo virus in the system.. :-) .. so, I deleted Firefox .. then realized I had 20 years of bookmarks I really didn't want to delete. I've donated to Firefox several times and my wife has a $5/month auto donation that's still active... So, I'm determined to restore it .. with a working Google search engine and prior Bookmarks & History.

1) Which Firefox "Profile folder" ? ... places.sqlite or about:profiles  ?? (I don't see how to make a word in BOLD text)

Also .. nothing was said about Bookmarks .. or the bookmarks bar ...

Since upgrading to Firefox 36.0.1 (and possibly earlier), Google Drive will not properly load. While I can get to the drive page, the colored wheel that google displays as its apps are loading just continues to spin. I've tried on Chrome and it loads fine. I've also tried opening Firefox in Safe Mode with extensions/add-ons disabled, as well as clearing cache. I haven't tried the Firefox Refresh yet, but I haven't done any tweaks beyond add-ons that should be interfering.

Has anyone else come across this problem? Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Hi there. So, for quite a while now, Firefox keeps on freezing my whole computer while watching videos on YouTube or streams on Twitch. It started a few weeks back & when I couldn't resolve the problem, I changed to Chrome. But I just don't like it, so yesterday, I decided to go back to my fav browser: Firefox.

But my problem remains: When I'm watching a video, my browser constantly keeps freezing my whole MacBook. It starts with the video just stopping but the audio keeps going on for some 10-20 seconds. Then I can't move the cursor anymore & finally the sound dies & nothing reacts anymore. I can't even open the Activity Monitor or do anything else. So the only possibility for me to get back doing stuff is to hard reset my laptop & boot it again. This just happened to me twice in the last two & 4 or 5 times in the last 24 hours... I would really appreciate, if anyone could point me towards an solution.

Oh, and I'm on OS X 10.10.2 using Firefox 36.0.1 (but it also happened on 35.x before). Hardware Acceleration is turned off & flash is on its latest version. Cache has been flushed several times as well.

this feature worked fine until the last 2 updates & works fine on Safari browser. Autofilling email addresses is a very important feature for my business. Can anyone help me PLEASE!!! thanks!

I received notice from Firefox about its latest update. After completing the update (47.0), the cache will not clear to '0' as it has done for years. I went to about:cache and saw a 'cache2' that will not clear 62kb. I know this is not much, but I do not like the fact that it will no longer completely zero. Then I noticed a folder called 'doomed'.

Can cache2 be disabled? Is there someway to completely clear cache2? Is 'doomed' malware?

I have used the remember and restore last open tabs option to restore all my tabs when I start FF every day.

However, I accidentally closed FF without the tabs open today. So I lost my "open tabs" history.

Now I need to look in Time Machine (OS X) and find whatever file it is from yesterday that saved my tabs open history.

Does anyone know what this file is called?

The little black house icon (the home icon) has disappeared from my toolbar. I always used to use this to quickly go back to start a new search. Why did it disappear and how do I get it back? Thanks for your help.

I am in my account on Firefox version 38.0.5 and when I go into my settings I want to change some but they are greyed out. How do I get this so I can edit them? I went into preference in Firefox then down to Privacy and want to make some changes there but some of the areas such as clear history when Firefox close is greyed out. hOW DO i make changes in Firefox?

Why is their no uninstall application for Firefox?

I run an educational centre and want the students to only be able to access one web site on one particular computer particular through Firefox. The computer runs Win XP. Use of this machine is sometimes unsupervised and I want them to only be able to access certain practice material on one specific site.

It works in Safari, Chrome, and earlier FF versions. I note that if I try to embed from a https site, it does work. Is there a work around for this other than making my site https?
